This system is a combination of finesse, applying physics, knowledge of anatomy, and how energy is directed. The emphasis is on economy of motion and efficient self defense. It is based upon maximum destructive output with minimum effort. Guru Ingram's broad knowledge also includes Pukulan Japara, Tjimande, Manyang, Gulat (wrestling), and Vitimaen (stick and staff fighting from the Moluccas) among others. His grappling techniques are amazing. Guru Ingram has been practicing for over sixty years and moves better than a lot of people half his age. Don't miss this rare opportunity! The only things that I know 100% are that his system is called Poekoelan Tjimindie and that he came to Ohio in the 50's (and your '56 is probably accurate) and that he trained with Willem Reeders. Some things I've heard are (complete hearsay/rumor ... please assign no weight to the following unless you find proof): Wetzel claimed to have some Silat Serak and I know that Reeders did. I have heard, though, other people claim that Wetzel never trained in Serak and that the majority of what he got from Reeders was Kun Tao (Reeders was very well known as a Kun Tao player but kept his knowledge of Serak very quiet for a long time). To all practitioners in the Bay Area, I am going to be attending Cal State Hayward this year and was wondering if there was an escrima/kali/arnis class taught there, or around the area. I know of actual schools in the Hayward/San Leandro area, but don't know if anyone actually teaches a class at Cal State. Does anyone know of any such class?
