His name is Guro Elrik Jundis and he teaches a variety of arts including Escrima Serrada and Internal Martial Arts. His class usually runs on Wednesday nights, but I'm not sure if it's still going on. You can contact him at egjundis@aol.com. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I personally know of no Spanish influence on Filipino whip work, or of any Spanish whip styles. This doesn't mean they don't exist, I just have heard of no references to them. I'll bet if they do exist they would consist of Sword and riding crop, the crop relacing the dagger technically. Anthony De Longis would know if anybody would, but he is not on this list and is working out of the country now. When I talk to him next I'll ask. My personal opinion is the American cowboys have had more influence on Filipino whip work than any other culture. This is due to the GI's and Filipino's joining forces in World War II. He'd like to start martial arts training of some sort, not sure what just yet. He has a few places to check out, but none are FMA. If there is some in the area though, I'll be happy to pass it along. Can you please elaborate on "Capture The Flag FMA style"? How is it played - what techniques are emphasized etc etc. It sounds like fun.... :) jocelyne Roaring Girl - Purveyor of fine books and kicks ------------------------------ From: "Phil Tong" Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 19:27:20 -0700 Subject: eskrima: RE: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #436 > From: "AUSTIN3_16" > Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2000 09:38:11 -0800 > Subject: eskrima: Training locations ? > > Well, I finally moved into my own place out in S.F. Hi Austin: It's "stick" night (Modern Arnis) tonight tues. at Alemany's - 1319-20th Ave. x Irving, SF CA. Otherwise it's mostly Kenpo & Cardio (which is pretty dang fun too) Maybe the new class schedule is posted on the web by now? http://www.alemanykarate.com/ If not am sure GM can accomodate private instruction. Anyhoo, check it out. I work out at couple of places and Alemany's included! If you stop by tomorrow night 6:45pm I can get you in the cardio class free first time. Ok, actually they welcome all visitors to try a class for fun I just trying to be a big shot :P I'm just learning what's available within the city. Here's another organization in Serrada (but not in the sunset district) http://www.tribe-iesa.com/html/contact_information.html Phil Tong ps. it's day #23 for me non-smoker!!! I really think I got it licked this time!!!! thx list for encouragement! heh heh, $92 now in my plastic baggie instead of in MOrris corporate pockets. Did I mention I like cardio class :) :) :) And working my way up from treadmill walk/runs first then real runs if legs will take me. Skip rope next too, will look dorky at first but I try. Feels like a new start on life.
