He's an instructor in FMA under Guro Dan Inosanto. In Orlando, you have Floyd Jackson also an instructor under Guro Dan as well as Lee Peacock in Jacksonville, Florida, not to mention Dwight Woods in Miami...all certified under Guro Inosanto. Glad to have been any assistance... ------------------------------ From: "Marc Denny" Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 21:09:31 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Bando Camp A Howl of Greeting to All: I just got back last night from 4 days in Ohio with Dr. Gyi, 2 and 1/2 of which were a Bando training camp which, amongst other things, had a night time reenactment of a rescue mission of captured downed pilots in the China-Burma-India. Of course we were just children thundering through the woods at night, but I think all of us (attendance was about 90) were each in our own way profoundly affected by the experience into a different level of awareness of what the men who fought in this war went through. On a humorous note, I was "killed" twice by friendly fire. I was able to stick around afterwords and study some Python with him. Words fail. What a man. I'm not sure if he does any FMA or not but he does Kuntao Silat de Thouars. He's a great guy. Get in touch with him and he can (at the very least, I would imagine) point you in the right direction even if his style isn't what you're looking for. His e-mail is: moratalla@ij.net I'll send a copy of this to him as well as a heads-up :-) Regards, Mike - ------------- The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources. -- Albert Einstein ------------------------------ From: "BILL MCGRATH" Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2000 00:25:45 -0400 Subject: eskrima: Sign line Tim Lavoie had such a good signature line that I had to respond. Tim had: "Politicians are the same all over. They promise to build bridges even when there are no rivers." - Nikita Khruschev To which I would like to contribute the etymology (linguistic history) of the word "politics" "Poli" from the Greek meaning "citizen" and "tics" meaning "a small blood sucking parasite which feeds on the citizen". (I had forgotten how much it hurts!) I had started getting into = some semi-decent shape and was making noise about competing in the = upcoming Machado Submission (no gi) tournament on 9/30-31. There being = no age divisions, and no belts, and skill levels simply determined by = years of training, this meant I would be in the Advanced division-- i.e. = young purples, browns and blacks. Suicidal no doubt, but what the hell. = Like Rocky Balboa, to go the distance would be a moral victory. Then = the sacrum injury. This made aerobic training of any sort impossible = for several days, and then the 4 days in Ohio-- net result, really poor = level of conditioning. Any clever ideas as to getting conditioning for = a 10 minute match in the next 10 days?
