Erik Paulson Seminar Tapes Hi, Just wanted to drop the word that Erik Paulson (Light Heavyweight Shooto Champion) has just released (just last weekend) a two tape instructional vale-tudo training set. The series is close to 2.5 hours, and it's full of great info! It covers striking, clinching, take-downs & throws, tons of submissions and much more. Check it out, it's very cool! http://www.trainingblades.com Thanks, Greg Smith ------------------------------ From: Terry Tippie Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2000 11:11:31 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Re: Fast Conditioning Yikes, that's a tough one. Swimming probably won't stress your back too much. But that's more of a solution you would use to maintain conditioning--combined with rest, analgesics and ice. I wouldn't use it to rapidly increase conditioning given your current injury. I think if I was your trainer I would watch you very carefully over the next couple of days and probably pull you out of the competition. Hope 'ya feel better, bro. Barry Meadows Tennesse ------------------------------ From: EGJundis@aol.com Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2000 15:27:09 EDT Subject: eskrima: Sacrum in need of work Crafty (and all those suffering from structural injuries or pain), A site to check out is http://www.egoscue.com/HTML/SiteMap.html I used the Egoscue Method to wipe out lower back and knee pain. It is some of the most innovative body awareness stuff that I have seen and the results can occur in the realm of the miraculous. You just have to do the work. Many top athletes search him out for help when their only alternative is surgery. The method is based on exercises that develop awareness and the ability to articulate areas of the body that most of us raised in the USA and West are ignorant of. I have also done structural exercises form Nei Gung, Ida Rolph, and Moshe Feldenkrais. Each are beneficial and there is a cross over of theory and practice, but if you want_straight answers to your pain and a clear path to your relief and former physical prowess, check it out. The Egoscue clinic is down in San Diego. As for your aerobic conditioning, good luck and good work. I am sure you know more about this than me (as well as others on the list). Increasing your aerobic capacity and the amount of oxygen you receive from each breath is a different matter. Work in this area vastly effected my ability to practice newaza (grappling) and randori in my Judo days. I am sure you have already explored areas in abdominal breathwork, and mind-body training (i.e., yoga, NLP, autogenic training). I included the two links below for those interested in a starting point for learning more. http://www.mv.com/ipusers/howell/ejh/HTML/breathing01.htm http://www.authentic-breathing.com/deep_breathing.htm Enjoy, Elrik Jundis School of Pilipino Martial Arts I am curious as to anybody's experience and results with any of the above in regard to their martial practice and performance.
