The word Kris is now used to describe a variety of wavy blades. I own a Filipino-style wavy aluminium training sword from http://www.trainingblades.com. He used to sell a Kris-style knife. Another fellow sells some wavy training swords and blades. Check out his web site. This fellow is new in the business, so his presentation isn't complete. http://www.warriorcraft.com ------------------------------ From: Chad Date: Sun, 24 Sep 2000 13:15:01 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: Re: Training Sword E.T.C., Check out Michael's site at http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Rink/8337//index.html for wooden kris swords. I haven't seen them, but he made custom flat sticks for us and I am impressed. Although not Kamagong, they were fashioned like the old flat sticks used in death matches, and looks like the one Floro Villabrille used. The one he made for us was cocbolo and is beautiful. He does it in a variety of woods though. Anyway, Michael does excellent work, delivers in a timely manner, accepts custom orders and is the ONLY place that I was able to get a flat sitck like this, although not of kamagong. So if anyone has a big chunk of kamagong just laying around in their garage, could you dust it off and send it to him? The flat stick is listed under Pacific War Club and was made off of a smaller version of the the flat stick that Floro Villabrille used. Oh, oh, Michael, you might get backed up with all the orders that are about to come in, huh. I think Doce Pares also sells a training kris blade, but I personally thought it was a little too small, however the straight training blade felt pretty good. Good Luck. ===== Chad chad@fullcontacthi.com Full Contact Stickfighting Hawaii http://www.fullcontacthi.com http://www.egroups.com/group/stickfighting __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Well, I guess I missed the "willing to drive for quality instruction" part. Here is my two cents: For FMA, JKD, and Muay Thai (in that order)-Guro John Daniels is the man. For Silat-Steve Plinck. For BJJ, JKD-Matt Thorton. For Krabi-Krabong and Mauy Thai-Ajarn Steve Wilson. All are located in the Portland/Southern Washington area. If you need contact info or anything else, drop me a line. Take care.
