Why don't FMArtist enter empty hand tournenaments or better yet have there own ? Now this does not include FMA arts like Yaw Yan, Sagasa, or Sikaran which are essentially empty hand only systems. What I am talking about are arnis/eskrima/kali players/stylists. The FMA are supposed to be complete systems but I have never seem them in any empty hand open tourneys (forms or fighting) or have I seen an empty hand tourney organized by arnis/kali/eskrima groups/styles/orgs. I'm not saying it never happens, but I would say that it is a rare exception. Why is this ? I know that one of the arguments that is going to be put forward is that our empty hands are "to deadly" but that is just crap. Silat another style that is often said as "deadly" have tourneys. We have weapon tourneys which in themselves can be more deadly. Any ideas? It was a great day of fighting. I had a chance to go up against the Top Dog, Eric Knaus. My dream come true. When we squared off, it brought me back to, I believe it's tape 2 of the DB vid series, where Eric is squaring off w/the camera with the mask over it. I thought that was great. Then I remembered how he crashed into it with one of those God fearing backhands. At that moment it brought me back to reality. I fell victim to one of his sweet backhand across the back of my knee. Just watching him move before me, the agility he has from dropping way below my knee then springing back up. Very smooth. As we reviewed the fight tape at Guro Crafty's home, as he came in for the shot, his head was below my knee. Way out of my reach. He's 6'4". I'm 5'9". That was stickfighting at the highest level. Thanks Eric for the great experience.
