We will all surely miss him. I will surly miss my teacher, but most, I will miss my FRIEND and FAMILY member. My prayers are with you Jason and Jena. May God take him into his house and give him joy forever. I sat and thought about this man and all that I have read and seen of what he did in life. Everything that was told to me over the years by others....the history that was part of him and his bravery. I thought about what he represented.... I was moved by this all.....I know that if his art is kept alive and we spread what we can too others, He has gone forward. his life will not end and He has left everyone here to keep the art and all that he stood for alive. I dedicate this poem to: Jena and Jason Inay, To all that loved this man, To all that looked to him as mentor. And to every person that he touched and gave the art too. Do Not Weep Do not stand at my grave and weep: I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you wake in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry: I am not there. I did not die. "Johnaleen Bows Sadly" ------------------------------ From: EGJundis@aol.com Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2000 13:24:16 EDT Subject: eskrima: Mike Inay RIP That is a huge shock and a huge loss. My respect and love goes out to the biological and extended FMA family that Suro Inay created. His efforts to promote FMA will continue in the efforts of his children, adopted children, the ITO leadership, and his videos. While gone in body, his work and spirit lives on. As a member of FANHS, the Filipino American National Historical Society, I think it is important to acknowledge the impact and work of the late Suro to record and promote the culture of the Stockton FMA community. And to acknowledge him as one of the leaders of the "bridge" generation who effectively linked the efforts and knowledge of the manong generation to the "professional generation" of post 1965. He is a man who's efforts went way beyond the Filipino American community as seen here in the internationally used E-D which he helped to inspire. I have been a participant of this community off & on for over five years and I am thankful for it. I think of the community he left behind and their pain. I understand how special and giving he was to those who trained with him. I think I speak with the E-D when I say that we grieve with you. I know the ITO will remain strong in their commitment and love for the man who created and lead their organization. I look forward to the future of the ITO and the continuation of Suro's dream. I trained with him twice in London, there were plans for him to come back to the UK. I had told my guys what a great teacher he was and we were all looking forward to meeting him (again). My best wishes go out to his family at this time. Look to the legacy he has left and be proud. He trained with Suro Mike for a long time. I personally never had the opportunity to meet or train with Suro Mike but I know from what I've seen and heard that his death is a great loss. That makes 3 big names (that I'm aware of) in the FMA/IMA this year (Pak Rudy Ter Linden in January, Pa Herman Suwanda in March, and now Suro Mike Inay). My sympathies to Suro Mike's family and friends. The martial arts community in general, and the FMA community in particular, has lost a modest, unassuming, but great martial art master, teacher and friend. In this time of sorrow, we would like to also extend our sincere appreciation to Suro and the Inayan Eskrima Group for setting up and maintaining a world-wide, Filipino martial arts forum that was, and continues to be, open to all: the "Inayan Eskrima Digest". May it continue always as a dynamic, living testimony to Suro Mike's unselfish promotion and sharing of the Filipino martial arts. THANK YOU, SURO MIKE! Ray - -----Original Message----- From: Mail Delivery Subsystem [mailto:MAILER-DAEMON@3com.com] Sent: Thursday, September 28, 2000 11:28 AM To: kevink@ewd.3Com.com My condolences go out to the Inayan community and most especially to Jenna and Jason Inay. I had the honor of attending Suro Mike Inay's class some years ago. He was a generous teacher with a ready smile. It was clear how much he loved the art. He always appeared so happy to be teaching and working out. I had to smile when I first watched Suro perform on the Kadena De Mano tape because he looks so serious and threatening. This was not his personality at all. I never saw him this way in class and I attended for many months. He always seemed to smile and laugh while working out with his students. He truly enjoyed FMA and teaching FMA. The entire MA community has lost a great teacher. - - Kevin ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2000 14:23:14 PDT Subject: eskrima: . ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #456 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
