Sorry that I can't help you > get the 'skinny' on that comment, perhaps someone can help me with > why he was nicknamed "Black Jack"? I didn't catch all of that. For some reason his military nickname was oeiginally 'Nigger Jack'. I think it was because he had commanded some Black troops in the late 1800s. The press changed it to 'Black Jack' for printing. I know...small, purple fruit...;), but I didn't quite understand it when Terry wrote it the first time. I can see how "hubud" could be transferred to a clinch. He earned the sobriquet while commanding a regiment of black cavalry(Buffalo soldiers). He held his troops in the highest regard and would tell everyone he met, especially his superiors in his reports. Apparantly, his opinions were not shared at a time of rampant racism. A side note; William the Conqueror was historically referred to by the name William the Bastard until the Victorian era. Bastardy is a simple legal status which means the individual's father and mother were not married and the individual doesn't have automatic inheritance rights. And so it goes. Marc (Crafty), if you're listening, when were those tapes made (mid 90s?) Are you and Eric still fighting occasionally? What do you find as the biggest obstacle to fighting now that you're getting along in age (Speed? Reactiontime?) And finally, have you ever had any serious injuries (beyond a few stitches?) other than the gushing head wound on the first of the tapes? (how did that guy turn out? Stitches? looked like his head was really caved!) - -Badger Arnis Lastra, Arnis Lanada '79 ------------------------------ From: Joe Marszalek Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 08:58:38 -0800 (PST) Subject: eskrima: Cass Magda Silat Vidoes ???
