The seminar was a great success with 38 new friends in Europe. I would also like to thank Mr. Ibraima Kouyate for driving us around and showing us the sights. Because everyone at the seminar came with open minds and hearts we were able to share and demonstrate allot of Inayan concepts in a short amount of time. Paris is such an incredible place and much too much to do in just a weeks time. I hope we get the chance to see some of the things we missed when and if we go again. Hopefully Masirib Klement decides to take me again to assist him:) Patrick N. I don't know where I heard that, but for very long time I avoided cross-training because it's "bad" to start another art/system/style before you become proficient in one. I know most of the people on this list do cross-train (FMA/JKD/Silat seems to be the popular) - so what do think about this notion? could two arts interfere with each other "movements"? under what circumestances is cross-training good (or bad)? As a child I was put into a well researched education process which gave me several subjects to deal with on a daily basis. From the first day in school I have been prepared to deal with Maths, English History etc etc. Then when I take up martial arts some guy im giving my money too told me that it was bad for me to train in other arts as I do not have the capability to concentrate on more than one art. I personally have cross trained since 1986. I feel that after taking up the FMA into my training that the attributes it gave me made my boxing more profficient. Being more profficient in my boxing allowed me to spend more time developing my kicking. Fitness is a whole lot better when I work my groundwork and kickboxing but even working the stick against the heavy bag is demanding. When I got bored with kicking & punching I spent more time with the stick and on the ground instead of the local bar. When I returned to the boxing I found that my hand mechanics were still good thanks to the weaving of the sticks. When I had problems teaching a guy trapping I trained him with the knife for 6 months and when he returned to the trapping he picked it up much more quickly. The limitations are our own. Pershing, by Frank E. Vandiver (Texas A&M Univ. Press, 1977) is an account of the ceremony by which Pershing was elected a datto in 1903. This was largely due to the influence of a pandita named Sajiduciaman and the sultan of Bayan, Datto Ahmai Ben Kurang of Oato, whose wife Pershing adopted as well, becoming her honorary father. Pershing was extremely pleased at these honors. Pershing was the army's only datto. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Mon, 27 Nov 2000 7:26:53 PST Subject: eskrima: . ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #554 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
