Does anyone have a good idea, since it is quite difficult to answer this big question, because each of the art got a very long history and all proven effective in different battle fields. gary ------------------------------ From: Plumador@aol.com Date: Thu, 7 Dec 2000 05:17:14 EST Subject: eskrima: OFFICIAL Kalis Ilustrisimo Date and Time I tried posting the seminar flyer because it listed the official time, date and location. As things go sometimes, he and one of the boxers had a bit of a problem and the sparring got a bit out of control. Before the coach broke it up my student got two ribs broken, but he had broken the boxers left hand with an elbow strike. They were wearing Ringside 12 oz gloves with hand wraps. Neither one of them stopped fighting, they had to be broken up, so neither injury was a fight stopper...however my student still had all his weapons the other guy didn't. And had it been on the street, his hand would have been messed up much worse than it was. As the opponent throws the side kick, round house, or front kick to waist or chest high, parry with the back hand while lifting your front leg. Hopefully you have caught his foot close to your body "shelved" on your leg. You are now holding his leg on top of your leg. You drop your elbow into his stationary foot/ankle. Another variation is to raise your leg as his kick comes in shifting just out of range of his full extension and dropping the elbow at the same time. This works like the hand parry, elbow. The lifting of the leg under his foot traps his foot and allows you to smash with your elbow. Saw this done. The results was a bruised foot that looked purple/ black and blue for a month. I just got an octagonal rock maple stick. (about 24" long) It is unfinished and has some slight cracks in one end. (probably from kiln drying) Any suggestions on making the cracked area stronger or on how to finish the stick? Thanks, Paul ------------------------------ From: "Jon Howard" Date: Fri, 8 Dec 2000 09:25:53 -0000 Subject: eskrima: Instructors in the UK. Hey everyone - I've recently moved jobs to Stone (just North of Stafford), can anyone on the list recommend any FMA instructors in the North Warwickshire / South Staffs area.
