The only problem is; sending anything out of here will cost you a fortune. :-p Merry Christmas, S. H. We wear a WEKAF helmet, hockey golves, and for the most part, the WEKAF body gear. I love it. I know that this may seem like to much gear, but I do have a "real job" to go to in the AM and I need little things like working arms and fingers. :) You wrote: "After letting it sink in, I remember being really defensive. I couldn't initiate any offense without getting whacked in the helmet." Well, when I first started with the stick fighting, I realized early on that I was more of a counter-fighter myself, and I had to learn to deal with this. I just didn't have that speed (timing?) to launch that many attacks, but I could counter an attack fairly well. So what I did was look at video of my sparring matches, and looked at how I invited my opponent's attacks, and used that to draw their strikes (for my counter). Often times it was just a matter of stepping in. This 'stepping in' would draw a "1" and of course I would be ready with a roof block, punyo strike. So, I guess what I am saying is that one of the great things about the stick sparring is that it helped me find who "I" was, and I had to learn to 'use' who I was to my advantage. As far as drills, I suggest getting the Dog Brothers Tapes from Panther. They are chock full of great drills that will help you out. Here is a drill that I use: Take a step forward to find how my opponent reacts. Then crash the line covering for the attack, and counter. Oh, one last thing. Another thing I found with the stick sparring was the need for continous strikes. This one-shot, one-kill crap just doesn't do the job. Now, that may be due to the gear we wear, but unless you followup your counter with a series of shots, your dead.
