I would like to solicit your input & comments on the following: The current state of this training in this country? How much time (hours) should be devoted to this training in a police basic academy? What material should be included in this training? Training drills and aids to increase retention? Anything that you feel, based on your FMA and MA experience, that would increase an officers abilities to protect themselves and control the suspect? If you feel uncomfortable responding on the ED feel free to send the material privately. This material will be part of a training block that will be presented to police trainers at a national seminar. We can all agree that law enforcement officers in this country would benefit from more and better training. Now is your time to offer suggestions. Thanks! If someone legally changes their name, their new name is their real and correct name in all interactions with the world, eh? If a woman gets married and changes her name, we don't say that her maiden name is her real name. It is her former name, and her married name has become her correct/real name, no? Yah! So what's the biggie in acknowledging that "Sultan Uddin" is the man's real, ahem ... correct ... name? No heaviness required to acknowledge that. Simple respect can be the easiest "way" in both the short and long run. Of course that's just my humble opinion whether it's correct or not :-) If the former Mr. Joyce chose to make life changes which included a "name revision" he was and is in charge of that and we might expect anyone who respects him to address him accordingly. Does anyone question the same action taken by Muhammad Ali? Is "Muhammad Ali" his real name? Q: "What's my name?" A: "Cassius Clay!" Bip Bop Q: "I Said WHAT'S MY NAAAAME?!?!?" I guess that depends on the person and the country. I know a great many (non-PC types, esp women) that feel a married woman's real name is her real name, i.e. the 'maiden' name. We in the US seem to be in the minority thinking that a woman should change her name just because she got married. That is a convention that some (many) in this country accept and some do not. IMHO, A convention is neither correct or incorrect. Time to change topics???
