I would put it like this: As a practical matter, in some/many jurisdictions the cane carry may not PROactively be illegal, but RETROactively after its use as a weapon become so. For example: 1) a problem arises and you use a cane you found in the environment as a weapon. The "can of worms arises". 2) The same as one, except that lacking a medical reason the cane you use on the problem you brought with you. All the same issues apply PLUS those that arise from CARRYING a weapon apply (not to metion the practical matters of what a jury might infer). In other words, the fullnes of time reveals that what you were doing by carrying the cane was illegal. It is what events reveal your INTENT to have been that provide the legal problem.
