Besides, cell fluid and >capillaries have a tendency to disappear when you stop training for a few >days. Strength built from 1-5 reps will stay longer. All IMO, of course, and assuming your technicals are true... Given that an increase in 8 rep max will also lead to an increase in 5 rep max, "increasing a muscle size by adding fluid and blood vessels" does indeed "increase raw strength or ability". Perhaps not optimally, but it does. Specificity in training rears its head again. Low rep methodology helps best in low rep exertion, like powerlifting. Higher rep training helps better for longer output (in this, the increased vascularization of muscle tissue helps - over time, fuel & waste transportation needs are increased). Perhaps I don't care as much about being able to crush a coconut in my bicep as I do about holding a strangle on for a full minute. Train toward your goal. Or as others have put it, "live as you train, train as you live". jester ------------------------------ From: Todd Ellner Date: Fri, 05 Jan 2001 08:53:23 -0800 Subject: eskrima: Re: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #7 Meghan writes: > Does anyone know what the largest martial arts facility in the world is? From what I know, your foundation in the art, starting in 1990 through 1996, came from Master Sultan Uddin and IESA. You started right after Roman Abad at CCSF, and you were fortunate enough to meet GM Angel Cabales before he passed. Just to clarify for the rest of the readers who don't know. I know there are some old-timers who remember when you were with IESA no more than 4 years ago. Even at demos, like at Santa Clara University, people still ask if you're with IESA. For example, if that morning I have just thrashed and crashed with some 25 year old on the mat and then in the afternoon I were to go to the gym and do heavy weights, me experience has been that the next day (days?) I am not feeling too spry. For example, when I am in peak form for squats I do three sets of 10@225. I feel agile and explosive when moving with the sticks. But when I go to heavier weights/lower reps I tend to move more flat footed and to move less generally. Or when I go heavy on bench, I am less in the mood to whiz the stick. Just MHO, YMMV. I really enjoy learning new things with friendly people, especially when they have such a good attitude :-) James, I had a great time and I can't wait for your next book on Spanish knife-fighting. I hope to see you all next year, Jean-Yves ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 05 Jan 2001 16:10:23 PST Subject: eskrima: . ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #8 ************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
