I have be training under Babu Jackson of the Abantu Academy in Boston for a little under two years. I have a question regarding building up connective tissue strength such as ligament and tendon strength. I am hoping doing this will will make moving in low stances easier as well moving in and out of the crouch when sparring. What are some ways to develope tendon strength and also what do people think the benefits are. Greetings all, I'm looking for any and all schools who practice/teach any and all FMA's in the Twin Cities, Minnesota area. I'd like to know of places where a lone eskrimador can go to work/train/play with those of like interest. I've been in the area for the better part of a year and a half and have found only one school so far. Anybody know of such places? Could introductions be arranged? Jesse, The question is not about the legitimacy of Markwiley's credentials it was whether or not he had made a accurate representation of the Serrada style in his book *Serrada Escrima*. The debate has been rekindled by the publication of a follow-up volume on the art and his use of Sultan Uddin's name and photographs printed without MG Uddin's consent. Mr. Wiley, does have a Master's Certificate from the late GM Cabales. Hope that this helps a bit. Menzter and HIT training are mainly interested in building muscle size, whether you get stronger is secondary. With P+T, getting stronger is the main goal, size is secondary. Poliquin has trained many Olympic athletes to gold medals and many professional football + hockey players. Menzter and HIT have trained none. The last thing, if the Russian athletes do not use it, it was for a reason. They dominate the world in weightlifting. The use multiple sets. Please explain what "Multiple Sets" are, and kindly provide an example. In addition, does Poliquin and Tsatsuoline have websites that I may browse? Do they have any books out; if so, what is the title, year and publishing company? Thank you. ------------------------------ From: szorn@webtv.net (S ZORN) Date: Tue, 9 Jan 2001 17:11:28 -0500 (EST) Subject: eskrima: Re: Strength Training Actually, HIT was designed to build maximum STRENGTH with minimal effort, size is secondary. However, there are a few HITters who strive for size more than anything. I do not currently train with weights but I have invested quite a bit of time in the gym over the past 10-15 years. I trained with periodization with no gains in strength, then I discvered HIT and was able to add 2.5 to 5 pounds to the bar on major lifts almost every workout before I would plateau, which was about every 6 weeks or so. Then I would add a few extra days of rest and begin to gain again. Also, the side effect was a gain of 35 solid pounds in just under a year. I have used HIT since then with similar results.
