I don't own one but I know two people that do and swear by it. It uses cables, your own body resistance and various angles of the bench to affect the amount of strength needed to do the exercises. And...there are a ton you can do on it so you can always vary your routine. It does fold up nicely against the wall or into a closet for small spaces. There are also additoinal weights (or rubberbands?) that can be bought to increase the strength of each exercise. I think the best thing I've seen is that it allows you to work fast enough that it becomes very cardiovascular and there is stretching quality to it that you mentioned. This equipment seems very similar to the "paddle trainers" that swimmers use to practice their strokes. And hey, if a 60 year old MA like Chuck Norris can do it after getting beaten up by Bruce Lee in the Coliseum, it's got to work, right? =) (bad humor, sorry folks!) In the mid to late seventies there was a martial art publication that ran several installments of a book on an early karate pioneer. His name was Jim or James Harrison. I had an opportunity to read one or two installments but never got to read it all. In the movie Road House, Patrick Swaze (sp?) is in bed reading a book about Jim or James Harrison. I am wondering if any of you out there have ever seen it or know where I can get a copy. By the way, the back of the cover of the magazine showed Jim chopping off the top of a beer bottle with a shuto strike. Not really amazing except this was a series of pictures. Surrounding the bottle was a ring of fire and the bottle was filed with gasoline or some other substance that ignited in a ball of fire when the top of the bottle was snapped off. This has nothing to do with the FMA, just wanted to see if I could find the book. Interesting reading to say the least. I am in no way connected with Mark, but feel that his contribution to our art has been completely overlooked by many members of this list. Four years ago there were only 3 widely available books on FMA ( Modern Arnis, FMACSE by MW and FMA by Dan Inosanto (out of print)) now, thanks mainly to mark there are numerous books on various styles that are widely available. Has he written anything that is an outright lie? There is some guesswork and hearsay, but given the lack of any written records what else is there to go on? Does Mr Wiley really exagerate his abilities on the blurb for his books, or is it his publisher (yes, I know that as MA editor at Tuttle he must have had considerable control). Britain's best known writere on self protection (Geoff Thompson) has real trouble getting meaningful review comments for his books; magazine editors prefering comments like:"This man is very hard!","Read this book or else!" Is it any suprise that Mr Wiley's "Master Credentials" are pushed? Lie is a strong word. Is he saying something that he knows is incorrect... I haven't closely checked the new book on CSE, but if he says he has a Masters diploma he isn't lying. If he says he -is- a Master, well... Again, check www.cabales.com in a week or two for corrections to the book. Whether this will point out lies or just incorrect statements I cannot say.
