This makes for an amazingly adaptable animal. Many of the most "successful" animals are adaptable as versus specialized. A women can be trained to do much of what a man can do/does, but in my opinion ultimately the strength of the male/female bond comes from the attraction between complementary opposites. In a sense my visceral reaction to the femi-nazi mindset is because I see it is an ideology that seeks to have the theories of the mind determine what we each of us is instead of celebrate it. Neuter + Neuter= Nothing. What each of us is comes as the result of the continuum of our life's experiences interacting with the raw material of what we our parents' genes. There was a post from one of the women talking about the experience of being 110 pounds and training to defend herself against rape. In all seriousness and respect, if I were 110 pounds and had a vagina between my legs, I suspect I would be a different person than I am. Both of us would be stupid if we thought the same as the other. Well, you may be correct in your assumption that Rex Applegate and Col Carson never used or heard of "chi" but you are incorrect regarding W. E. Fairbairn. W. E. Fairbairn was a student of Bagua Chuan (sometimes called Pakua) as well as Kodokan Jiu-Jitsu. Pakua is a cousin art to Hsing Yi Chuan (aka Mindboxing) as well as Tai Chi Chuan. They are all considered "internal" arts and tend to focus on the development of the "life force" commonly called chi, ki, prana, mana, etc. Fairbairn therefore was well versed in the use of "chi". This is in response to the gentleman who made the comment about chi and it's existence. I'm no expert on the concept of chi or claim to be. However, I believe you made mention of chi being a combination of several things which include bio-mechanics, bio-electrical...etc One term that was introduced to me about a year ago was a scientific term for chi which one person mentioned as DMMA, meaning Dynamic Micro-Muscular Adjustment. Whether or not western science has accepted this term is unknown to me. One circumstance that I can relate about the existence (or non-existence) of chi was an incident that was related to me by my roommate who went to China for about 4 months. He is a Biology major and did an informal experiment about the existence of chi. Now mind you, this was very informal and the conditions were less than scientific, but I'll let you be the judge of that. While in China, he ran across a guy who could transfer his chi through his hand to another person. Whether physical contact was require, i wasn't told. My roommate took 6 of his friends. 3 of them were American, and the other 3 were Chinese. He took them to where this gentleman was and told them to just sit down and relax, and related nothing of who the man was or what was going to happen. He merely told them to just sit and relax. The result was that the 3 American students felt nothing what so ever. The 3 Chinese students stated that they felt a warm sensation and even a HOT sensation on the surface of their skin where this man had placed his hand. Now again, this was just an experiment that was related to me by a close friend, who wanted to conduct an experiment with some what of a true scientific control. Perhaps the result can be related to level of conciousness or perception of at a certian level. If it is a matter of perception, then what level do you have to be at to acquire or have this perception. I guess the whole point is that "something" is happening when the concept of chi is involved, western science doesn't know what, but it is definitely something that is happening, physically and mentally. And to try to discredit thousands of years of Chinese medicine by merely stating that "western science has no means to measure chi, therefore it doesn't exist..." would be a mistake as well. walter v. __________________________________________________ FREE voicemail, email, and fax...all in one place. Hey Ray i have a questing four you though? How many members are here again and how many are male and how many are female? i would be interested in the numbers for my site.... Johnaleen Hey Ray i have a questing four you though? ***** "When I ask that question to a room full of men, I get about a 95% hand raise... most often all raise their hands. They wouldn't hesitate. When I ask this to a room full of women, I get a varying response... on a rare occasions I get 75% raising their hand. Most of the time I get 40-50% raising hand. Sometimes I get ONE hand in the whole class. Most who do raise their hands do so tentatively. *ONCE* in 6 years of training did I get an entire class of women who raised their hand.In your opinion, why is this? (I am not setting you up for anything here I really would like to know your view on this)." ***** Ok can i ask you a question first? Have you tired to find out what will make a woman kill someone? or maybe your asking the question wrong? Why not ask how many woman would kill too protect someone they loved? their children? you see there are different reasons why one gender will raise there hand and the other will not..... Woman protect there young and they take care of there family's.... The reasons for a woman to want to kill are all different as well when your teaching a self-defense class too them..... its important that they can find reasons to keep themselves alive and be able to bring out that survival instinct.... protecting young is a base instinct that women have and should be used to teach preservation of themselves. i.e. i don't believe that your going to get the majority of women willing to kill someone to protect themselves in the same wording that you will get from the Macho dudes that don't want to look bad when they don't raise there hands because of there piers.... Personally i start at a different place.. when i am trying to get a woman to understand the process of saving her life.... instead I teach them by getting them to recognize that they would kill someone if it was too protect there young and loved ones... then you transfer this to if you don't protect yourself , your children and the people you love will have no one to take care of them... so i.e. if you love your children enough to protect them and kill then you have to protect yourself enough to have to do so as well for there sakes.... In abusive homes with victims the processes is somewhat different.... mentally you have to get the woman there too recognize that they are part of the abuse of there children, because they are not protecting them and bring again that base instincts of of preserving the ones you love by not letting someone hurt you or the children.... There is a lot of denial that goes with victims though so its a lot harder to bring the things out that we need to for there preservation...Many victims hate themselves and have lost self love and love of there children because of the pain associated with there past and what happened when in the past they tried to fight back .... so the work is harder.... again different mind set and women and men think about things differently and the process is different...
