Hi Jonaleen, why not just do what everyone else does? Get two identical knives. Keep one for real stuff. Take a file and dull the blade and point of the "practice knife". If you wish, cover the blade with a piece of tape. This way, you have exactly the same feel and balance of the real thing. - -- Ray Langley ------------------------------ From: DAHLDP@aol.com Date: Mon, 5 Feb 2001 22:20:27 EST Subject: eskrima: Johnaleen's Question about Bali Song Trainers If you have a resale permit and business license, you can contact a knife distributor called Blue Ridge Knives (540-783-6143). They are a wholesaler and work only with retailers. However, if you are already selling martial arts training equipment, etc., you can probably convince them to work with you. Blue Ridge has a number of inexpensive imported Bali Songs that wholesale for well under $10. I use a Dremel tool or drill with a grinding wheel and take off the edge and tip. In a few minutes you can make an inexpensive trainer that will not injure you while doing dexterity practice. The blade may be a little too thin for vigorous practice with a training partner, but it's fine for solo use. It sure as heck doesn't feel like a Benchmade Model 42, but you won't cry when you drop it either. I have no financial interest in Blue Ridge. However, I have found them to be a fair and responsive business so I recommend them to you. Eric is one of the most innovative guys out there, and a class act to boot. I have many of my coolest submissions in BJJ class thanks to some of his slick stuff. Can anyone help me out? Pat Davies replied: I have the double seminar tape from Edges2 and it is superb. It covers all areas of his CSW curriculum from boxing/kickboxing drills, clinching drills, takedowns, drills and positioning on the ground. Theres so much there and its taped and edited professionally with titles announcing the technique before its done. He often gives reasoning for doing it a certain way and I have learnt quite a lot from the tape. As a Brit I got a little annoyed with the "Sir" tag that was loudly repeated so so so many times by a participant but otherwise its Paulson at his best. The techniques are covered several times from different angles and speeds before it moves on. I thoroughly recommend it. Lets face it Erik is out there fighting (has he retired yet?) and as such placing his training to rigorous testing. His attitude is refreshing and good fun. When he was taking seminars I heard someone ask him why he was giving people a workout at the beginning. Because it's the art he replied. I cant wait for him to return to the UK again. ------------------------------ From: "Johnaleen" Date: Tue, 6 Feb 2001 09:17:58 -0500 Subject: eskrima: To the Members of the Eskrima Digest To the Members of the Eskrima Digest From the CEO and Sr.Vp. of The F.A.T.E.
