When sanding it without a mask I found the result felt as if I had been inhaling very mild curry powder (not that I've actually tried that, but, well, you get the picture!). A mild burning sensation which took a while to leave even after a thorough cleaning ;-) Now I use all the protection I can: mask, goggles. ear plugs - the lot. Still a beautiful wood, and very impressive weight. Which translates as every thing stops for a minutes silence on the nearest Sunday to the 11th of November. From my memory when I attended during my service time, all members of the allied forces are remembered, with reefs being laid by the Royal Family. Veterans do a march passed etc. The last post is sounded etc. As a matter of fact when I left the army I worked with a polish vet from WW2, who was one of the strongest men I have ever met. We used to asked him how he got so strong, he just said it was mental toughness.
