Could be wrong, but thats what Ernesto said. > > Kendal Coats Hi, according to what I have learned in the Philippines, Bahi is the heart, the inner part of the palm trees. The outer wood is supposedly of softer nature, but the center, perhaps a 1/3rd or 1/4th of the total diameter in the middle of the palm tree, is the bahi wood. For those unfamiliar with Corto Cadena it has very sophisticated basics especially in the realms of structural alignment (for grounding, speed, and power), spatial relationships (e.g. "Arg! How did he hit me again"), footwork (e.g. "Oh, that's how he hit me"), fulcrums, and blade application. Umpad has a book at Paladin Press on the balisong and is well known for his seminars in Europe and the Pacific Northwest. Date: February 24, 2001 Time: 1:00 to 6:00 PM Cost: $80 Location: In Motion Center for Healing, Movement, and Martial Arts 813 San Pablo Avenue Albany, CA 94706 For More Info call: Bernard Langan at (510) 527-7760 Cheers, Elrik Jundis ps. Regardless of Dr. Gyi credentials, I have had > occasional >classes with this man and in public he is a damn fine > kind man that >others should emulate. He is a fine teacher as well. I have followed this thread with great interest and saddness because it points toward a very real problem within the MAs as a whole, the inability of many people to distingush factual data from personal perferences. Doctor Fung, is correct regarding his point that each of us must dertermine for ourselves if we can benefit from what an instructor is teaching. HOWEVER, I must respectfully disagree with his next statement. The credentials presented are important since they are part of the basis for one's decision to attend or not attend a seminar. I can not condone lying about one's military background and I can not suggest emulating a person who has blantantly lied about such a credential in order to attract people to his/her seminars, dojo, or camps. Why would we want to emulate deliberately deceitful behvior? I do not have an opinion on the truth or falsity of the military claims by Dr. Gyi, but I do know that he needs to step forward and put his record up for public review, therby ending the controversy. If he can not or will not make parts of his military record, public, then the implication will be taaht he has not been truthful! Some people will continue to support and train with him. That is their indiviual decison to make. Others will choose to disassociate with the man, that is their indiviual decision to make, but if Dr. Gyi or any other person has been less than candid/ truthful about their miliary record, that is a serious breech of etiquette, a violation of trust and honor; why would anyone want to emulate that kind of behavior, reardless of how good the instructor is at the MAs? Coalition business came up unexpectedly and I am going to be in the LA area on that matter Feb 26-28th. However to offset my sushi tab ( YES!!!! Remember I am land locked here in Colorado and "fresh" fish isn't...but I digress), we have just wrangled seminar space in the El Segundo area. So I'm going to be holding a mini seminar on the last Sunday of February. Street knifework and self-defense Sunday Feb 25 1pm - 5pm Price $40 At El Segundo United Methodist Church 540 Main St, El Segundo CA (405 to Imperial head west to Main St.) For more info contact me privately at animalmac@aol.com I will warn you in advance, this isn't martial arts. It's survival. If you think you know the difference come and see. The difference is shocking. It will also give all those interested, a chance to see if this little ol' rascal is as good as I apparently think I am. Hope to see you there. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 19:01:09 PST Subject: eskrima: . ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #85 *************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
