Two letters (pg. 10) mentioning the IKF's Filipino Martial Arts and one of them requesting that the FMA and Indonesian arts get more coverage in their publication. (pg. 19) - The 7th International Philippine Martial Arts Federation World Arnis Congress, Training Camp and Tournament to be held in Hingaran, Negros, Philippines April 19th - May 4th this year. For more information you can contact fellow ED member Alex France at Alex.France@kp.org I also forgot to mention that in the March issue of IKF there was a brief article on Grandmaster Ernesto A. Presas's 30 years in the FMA's. And finally beginning on page 38 there is an informative interview/article on Victor deThouars and Silat Serak. Besides a background on the system and Maha Guru DeThouars, there is a mention of the Soempat stick system. The soempat sticks are curved sticks that according to the article have advantages over the straight stick because of the increased torque or twisting force. I don't know about the increased twisting force but one advantage I can see is that it would be harder to block the Soempat stick. Can any member offer additional info on this stick. Hi, thanks for the info. One never stopps learning, right. What do we learn from this info? Not everything you learn in the Phlippines is correct. He said something to me that day that i have kept with me and teach too my students when ever the question comes up about degrees and education. Credentials, Degrees, Belts, License's." when you go to school and you get something like this all your getting is a license to learn, you see you can learn all you want in a book or in a class but its just the beginning, you now have to use that license or credentials to learn the real applications that you will learn by applying that credential or license or degree. so all that schooling i did..... the degree is only the license to learn more and practice what you were taught in the real world until you gain the experience to back up what you have on paper.. The paper is only the start its the actually teaching or application experience afterwards that gives you the real experience to apply your applications. for me its just balance.. you need both. Ms. J..... Nature imitates herself. A grain thrown into good ground brings forth fruit: a principle thrown into a good mind brings forth fruit: Everything is created and conducted by the same Master....... the root, the Branch. the fruits, .....the principles, the consequences. .....Blaise Pascal ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2001 12:51:48 PST Subject: eskrima: Sport TKD Calendar The_Dojang's calendar of Sport Taekwondo Events February 15, 2001 http://www.martialartsresource.com Dates and locations subject to change. 2001 Maryland TKD Champs Feb 17 Baltimore, Maryland AAU Central Assoc Qualifer Feb 17 Chicago, Illinois Florida Winter TKD Champs Feb 17 Miami, Florida Alaska TKD Champs Feb 17 Ft.Richardson, Alaska Kansas TKD Champs Feb 17 Mulvane, Kansas Massachusetts TKD Champs Feb 17 Medford, Massachusetts Texas State USTF/ITF Champs Feb 24 Austin, Texas Slovenia ITF 2001 Feb 24 Maribor, Slovenia Queensland ITF Champs Feb 25 Mackay, Australia 10th US TKD Open Champs Feb 28-Mar 4 Las Vegas, Nevada Maryland AAU TKD Champs March 3 Bryans Road, Maryland German ITF Open March 3-4 Dortmund, Germany 25th MSTA Champs March 10 Tyngsboro, Massachusetts Indy Cup 2001 March 10 Indianapolis, Indiana Eastern Canadian ITF Champs March 10 Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Gulf AAU Champs March 10 Houston, Texas AAU Spar Wars March 10 Marietta, Georgia Oklahoma AAU Champs March 10 Tulsa, Oklahoma Dutch TKD Open March 10-11 Eindhoven, Netherlands Puerto Rico Junior TKD Champs March 10-11 San German, Puerto Rico New Hamp TKD Champs March 17 Durham, New Hampshire California AAU TKD Champs March 17 San Francisco, California ITF Best of the Best 2001 March 18 Czech Republic Iowa Midwest TKD Champs March 24 West Des Moines, Iowa So.
