Sorry, this *might* help. There is: 1) An arnis instructor in Holland (30 min to the south of GR). I think he's on this list; never met him. 2) A JKD instructor in Grand Rapids, I've met his students that live in K-Zoo. 3) A modern arnis instructor (met him once, great guy, great skills) in Lansing (1 hour west). Sorry, I don't know *any* over their names, but they are there. Raphael Chiu Student of Guro Nate Defensor Chicago, IL USA __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Running intervals is a great way to increase CV endurance, your capacity for brief explosions of energy, and your ability to recover quickly from them. You can be ultra-scientific and figure out interval length and number of intervals in a session, or you can be pretty informal and just break into a sprint from one fire hydrant to the next, then jogging to the next one, sprinting again, etc. I like using the interval or countdown timer on a sport watch while I run because it encourages me to go into a full sprint instantly (kind of like doing a straight blast) Since I run on a beach most of the time I also fool around with running zig-zags, bounding, running backwards, and so on. Thanks to the guy who posted about running with a stick and working patterns, I'm definitely going to try that!    - -------------------------------------------------- Scott Kinney Project Manager sakinney@ix.netcom.com - -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ From: kalkiusa@netscape.net (Mikal Keenan) Date: Thu, 22 Feb 2001 11:33:48 -0500 Subject: eskrima: San Jitsu > Greetings from the south Pacific island of Guam. > I have been living on guam for the last 15 yrs and haven't seen San Jitsu > practiced here, although I can't say that it doesn't exist.   Do you mean ... can't say that San Jitsu exists or that it exists and isn't being taught there? I saw some videos online somewhere re: a native of Guam who developed a system with a name something like San Jitsu. Anyone know what I'm talking about or was I daydreaming?:-) If anyone knows anything about it, what's it like? Part of my curiosity is related to the Hawaiian Lua, some aspects of which were supposedly assimilated into the jujitsu system of a Japanese teacher who lived in Hawaii. Curious re: stuff from other Polynesian cultures. Have been to Luzon and a few provinces there. Have been to Dumagatie (spelled wrong) and Salomon University. Also, spent much time in the denizens of Angeles where I developed a strong appreciation for the San Miguel beer and other diversions. Regarding your point, yes farmers and fishermen would expect to carry knives and bolos. In February, we visited the province of CarCar past Pardo. A brother in law is building a small house overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Have you been to the weekly cockfights in Cebu ?
