Well it appears that Island Dog spoke too soon. He asked me to post that he is out of town on 5/5/01 so at this time there is no "un-official" Dog Brother Gathering unless someone else does it. We on the sidelines can only hope... Regards, Carlton H. Fung, D.D.S. Yes. I own the book. It was interesting to read about the rationalizations for weapons design, the ol' slash vs. thrust debate. The chapter in which the author participated in the German live blade "Mensur" fraternity hazing was fascinating. My father used to do this here in the States in his Latvian fraternity gatherings in the 70's. I remember playing around with the blades in the basement, even though I was told not to touch them. The first inch of the pointed blade was sharpened on both sides. The chest padding was quite "hole-y". I'll ask my "pa" about the ritual. The book was interesting because her in the States, we don't hear much about European martial arts/ rituals. As is turns out, it's still going on. ------------------------------ From: Chad Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 18:13:48 -0800 (PST) Subject: eskrima: Re: European MA sites >>It gives me a chance to read >>the advice, instructions, and observations of master swordsmen. I've also found some of the manuscripts informative. What's also amusing is that some of the fencing books I've read talk about the whole sparring is good and drilling is good discussion that we get over here once in a while. ===== Chad - chad@fullcontacthi.com Full Contact Hawaii - http://www.fullcontacthi.com Stickfighting Digest - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stickfighting __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
