But then it was also extended to Clinton. It was just a bogus email going around that apparently fooled many. He could have added the following come-ons ("gimmicks" for you Filipinos): (1) the guarantee - "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back" (assuming you can find him). (2) the early bird special (3) the "supersize" special - something like 2 additional never-before-revealed "death-touch" lessons for just an additional $ 125.00. (4) an actual kung-fu black belt (I always thought it was a sash) with authentic mystical magical Oriental inscriptions. (5) FREE video of the blockbuster "Revenge of the One-Eyebrowed Drunken Apprentice Monk" (bootlegged copy) Well, you get the idea. ------------------------------ From: "Jay de Leon" Date: Wed, 14 Mar 2001 22:13:46 -0800 Subject: eskrima: Tomahawks and 'Last of the Mohicans" Loved this movie. But I was actually more impressed with Magua (played by Wes Strudl) in his fight with Uncas at the end of the movie. Magua uses "tomahawk y daga" techniques (with the knife in a reverse grip) to kill Uncas. Of course, in the next fight, he gets his comeuppance from a vengeful Chingachgook (the father of Uncas, played by veteran actor Russell Means, who I believe is a real American Indian), who uses a massive weapon that looks like a cross between a kukri and a war club. Does anybody know the technical name of this Indian weapon and what is it really made of? Or was this a made-up (movie) weapon? ------------------------------ From: kalkiusa@netscape.net Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 09:41:57 -0500 Subject: eskrima: Last of the Mohicans I've also been interested in training with knife and tomahawk ... wondered if some of Lewis' moves came from Native fighting methods ... knew that he trained in Alabama and/or Georgia at a place where some of Chang, Deng-Sheng's students teach or taught antiterrorists (Shuai Chiao/Kung Fu). The move that Lewis uses where he strikes with tomahawk forehand, then steps through with a spin to do an icepick thrust with the knife reminded me of what I learned as "square stepping" in kung fu ... first trained in arm conditioning exercises where the trainees bang arms in a choreographed square step around each other. Learned something similar in a seminar with the late Bujianin Mateen but there was no step through/spin ... the trainees do a reverse trianlg step around each other and at one point are back-to-back. Lewis' move looked very Chinese/Korean to me ... doesn't mean it was a Chinese/Korean thing though. Speaking of Native American fighting methods, I've asked about "Yaomachtia" here before. Anyone familiar with it, care to comment? Anyone know anything about Seminole fighting ways? The Seminoles/Black Seminoles fought off Army/Navy/Marines for 40 years. They must've known what they were doing. After signing agreements and moving out of Florida the Black Seminoles moved to the Southwest, then to Mexico along the Rio Grande after being declared slaves ... any relation to modern "Yaomachtia" or is that an Aztec thing? Seems to me stick and dagger would crossover well to tomahawk and knife. Any one on the list train in this style? After reading the article I still do not get how the curved stick works, IF I understand correctly the curved stick adds torc/power in to the blow not unlike the curved Ghurkha knife. Any one using this in full contact training? Is the curved stick a substitute for a curved silat blade or do people fight with pre curved sticks as well. Is a curved stick better for directing your opponent when you are at close range, I should imagine Serak stick fighting involves quickly closing down the opponent and putting them in to a position of disadvantage. Nice also to see Guro Bill's "them and us" article. It should be required reading.
