To restrict a title (like 'Datu' - - which was awarded from the Professor) to the IMAF is making the organization more important than the Grand Master. The Professor is bigger than the IMAF. Professor Presas is also bigger than the WMAA. Professor Presas IS Modern Arnis. What Professor Presas awards is not confined to any organization. "Guro" Mike Milazzo BTW... Does the fact that I am a member of the WMAA mean that I no longer have a Black Belt and the title 'Guro' as awarded to me from the Professor? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: "Charles E. Dulin" Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2001 22:10:55 -0500 Subject: eskrima: tomahawk In my home state (Delaware) a tomahawk would most likely be classed as a "dangererous instrument." Carrying a concealed dangerous instrument is a misdemeanor offense BUT our criminal code specifically defines a deadly weapon, in part, as a dangerous instrument when used as a deadly weapon. Chad Dulin ------------------------------ From: "Kevin Black" Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 04:11:51 Subject: eskrima: Professor Presas It is my understanding that Prof. Presas is hoping to teach for the first time since his illness at the April 7 seminar in Columbus, with Dan McConnell (mccfamily@plexis.net). I certainly hope that he feels well enough to do some teaching, but I'm not sure it is realistic to think that he will be able to keep up the hectic schedule he is used to. Not only has he lost much of his income due to his illness, but he is facing some monstrous medical bills. If you are concerned about how much of your seminar fee is going to Professor, you should contact Tim privately. I'm sure he will be happy to discuss it with you. I hope that Tim's use of titles isn't going to spark another month long thread. Professor gave the title of Datu to Kelly Worden and Shishir Inocalla, neither of whom are active IMAF members, and Ric Jornales has never held IMAF rank. If you are genuinely interested in the politics of Tim Hartman, Professor Presas and the IMAF, come meet them! They really aren't hard to find, and neither of them are shy about saying what they think. Otherwise, I don't understand your repeated comments from the peanut gallery concerning two people you have never met and an organization that you do not belong to. If you find the title offensive, don't train with Tim Hartman. If you think it's just puffery and self-promotion, maybe you should reserve your judgment until you train with him. Is there some reason why you like to snipe at Tim in this forum? His email address is readily available if you only want a straight answer! I'm going to incorporate some icepick vs icepick sparring real soon! Thanks... ~Kev ------------------------------ From: Thomas Macaluso Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 11:12:11 -0800 Subject: eskrima: Re:Datu stuff why are we revisiting this thread again ? It seems to resolve nothing and just start a flame war I personally don't think titles are important but it's not my art , if datu is a rank or title in modern arnis and he was given it good for him I will say that I know Mr. Hartman and I find that he is a good Martial artist and a good human being One of my JKD instructors once told me something that made a lot of sense. In the end the only rank you have is your good name Now if anyone is interested in thread on sparring I would be interested in peoples opinions on How soon do you like students to spar ? How much contact ? What techniques will you allow ? How much equipment ? Do you make a special sparring class or is it part of a regular class ? anyone ever try sparring with minimal equipment using wiffleball bats for stick ( I know it sounds crazy but it seems to give students a healthy respect for the weapon without a great risk of injury ) Tom Macaluso ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 8:44:48 PST Subject: eskrima: . ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #139 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY (top line, left justified) of a "plain text" e-mail addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
