Veterans of past WEKAF tournaments, including U.S. National Team coaches and current World and U.S. champions will be leading each seminar. The certification course for Referees and Judges includes live demonstrations and practice fights/forms for each attendee, as well as detailed instruction concerning safety, WEKAF rules, ring management, the standards used for judging fights, and the standards used for judging forms competitions. The full course requires 9 hours, so one must attend all three seminars and pass a test to receive a probationary certificate (full certification is awarded after demonstrating acceptable skills at a WEKAF-sanctioned tournament). The orientation for stick-fighters is for both beginners and those with intermediate-level experience, and for more advanced fighters who need to brush up on the current International WEKAF Rules. It covers everything one needs to know in order to participate in WEKAF-sanctioned competition, from how to strap on armor to the basics of what to do and not to do during a fight. The orientation requires only one afternoon session, so one can attend anyone of the three seminars. WHAT TO BRING Admission to either the 3-seminar certification course or the 1-seminar orientation is $15, payable in advance. Although limited sparring equipment will be made available, if you have your own, you should bring that too. The vast majority of the techinques in this book are for the hanbo, which is a 3 foot stick. There are also a few techniques on the very short stick (less than 2 feet). I don't recall seeing anything on either 2ft., 4ft., or 6ft. stick. - -- Ray Langley ------------------------------ From: Pete Sampogna Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 20:48:10 -0500 Subject: eskrima: attention heavy knife users I need help from 5 people who use a knife daily for cutting chores.
