Ray has got all us answering this question. Maybe stickgrappler could record all of the responses and post it on his site without names as different methods of teaching progressions? I always thought new students should be explained a little about ranges and learn the 4 diagnol angles and then long range counters, so that they can start sparring long range as soon as they can pick up all the long range blocks and evasion with counter striking. Recently, I've been thinking about changing this to teaching only the first two angles so that they can start doing harder drills and/or sparring sooner, and than introduce the other strikes, foot work, closing, etc. later and sparring with each progression. ===== Chad - chad@fullcontacthi.com Full Contact Hawaii - http://www.fullcontacthi.com Stickfighting Digest - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stickfighting __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The fee is $100 if received before 4/16 or $125 at the door (if still available). For further information you can email kichuando@aol.com. Or call 1-800-494-6551. If you have trouble reaching someone, feel free to email me. For directions, the hotel can be reached at 845-358-8100. John's system of close combat & self defense is extraordinary. I joined his class a couple months ago after reading his book. This may be of special interest to those on this list who have shown interest in Native American fighting lately. The system has elements of the Native American techniques he learned from his father (who was half Native American). You can check out the web site at: http://www.attackproof.com/events.htm His book is excellent, by the way, I highly recommend.
