"Aiki, as in Aiki-JuJutsu?" Yes Kendle as in Aiki-JuJutsu... i believe the first post i did on GM Morrell stated that it was the Aiki-JuJutsu that was he's core art and that he had integrated the FMA together in teaching the Teams, so yes he would use the term Aiki as you say here and there... but he would probably again been laughing at the post... and the possible description of how you would feel and look would have brought a laugh because evidently..... you really did feel and look sort of like "brown fish sauce" after you trained with this man....."grin" I know my Business partner has some of the same methods that Jim did and i can see some of the similarity's in his teaching and training, we all sort of take on some of the things that our teachers teach in the special way they do it.. and it becomes part of our overall skills and style... no matter what teacher you train under or style you follow... For instance... with Kali Illistrismo.. this is an easy one to pinpoint as there are not that many Masters in the Art that have Taught it, because it was not introduced into society until the mid 70's. Guro Dans Kali Illistrisimo is different from say Ray Galangs Illistrisimo, if you have seen both of these teachers teach the art, you see them in the student, normally without being told who there teacher was first, but you will see differences because they have evolved into the art, from years of training in it. it becomes there personal style, but it will always be different to an extent... again because we are individuals.. As with Guro Dan and Ray Galang, in each of them you will see some of Tatang but.... again there different then he was or the way he practiced the art itself.. Because they have Evolved though time and training... this is why out of the original 20 or so accepted FMA Styles, we now have nearly 90 different styles based on the original 20 that there core art Evolved into... I have a goal someday i want to be able to tell by looking at someone that dose FMA what main influence there teachings came from... yes yes well years and years more to do that... when i am 80 years old i might be able to do this with half the 20 or so original FMA styles of Eskrima-Kali If i live that long...... The old, fat, and slow one..... Ms. J... Crafty Dog ****************************************************************** NEWSBREAK Arkansas Legislature Introduces Bill to Regulate Martial Arts Instructors Arkansas House Bill HB2606, is described as "An act to require martial arts instructors of minor children to obtain a criminal background check; and for other purposes." This is an added expense and burden to martial arts instructors. Some questions that come to mind are: 1. How do you define instructor? Does this require that leadership team members must have background checks as well? 2. What incident provoked this and would a background check have prevented it? 3. Why is a such a small industry, the martial arts, being singled out? 4. What is meant by the phrase, "and for other purposes."? 5. What will be the expenses involved? 6. How much will this cost tax payers? 7. Why are current laws insufficient to protect children? 8. What indication do you have that martial arts instructors need to be singled out? NAPMA urges ALL readers of this email, regardless of where you live, to contact Representative Chaney Taylor Jr. at 870-793-5297 in opposition of this bill. You can review the bill at: http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/2001/scripts/ablr/bills/bill.asp? and search for the following Bill: HB2606 ------------------------------ From: Chad Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2001 18:07:11 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: Re: Practice/Training/Session At an attempt back to FMA... What did you do the last time you worked out or trained? Not what does your work out look like, but describe what you worked on at your last session, whether last night, last week, or wait until tomorrow night after you go. It would be nice to see what everyone here is working on. For example, yesterday, I went to my instructor's house at 6:30, and showed some heaven 6 add on and variations to two students that were just getting the hang of the the heaven 6. Next I paired up and worked some stick and dagger with one of the guys. Than I got with the other guy and worked on some knife disarms. Both guys demonstrated what they had worked on for my instructor and we worked on some pangamut and clinching with trapping. End class. What we work on during the week depends on who's there. The guys here last night were newer guys. ===== Chad - chad@fullcontacthi.com Full Contact Hawaii - http://www.fullcontacthi.com Stickfighting Digest - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stickfighting __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
