Now you are there and you know the System more than we do so please help the man. I appreciated that, we are here to help each other, I also read on the book of Mark Wiley Filipino Fighting Arts behind the cover as further reading, the Book of Combat Arnis is published on 1979 in Manila, Philippines. If it is published in Germany I dont know that, I know friends of mine back home have the copy also. I was friends before with a lot of Modern Arnis Blackbelts back home in Philippines like Willy Annang, Boy Tolentino and others. Sorry if I mistakenly that he is student of Remy, I know he very closed friends with the Presases brothers. Thanks, and Gumagalang, Gat Puno Abon "Garimot" Baet << Hi, Jackson Cui Brocka was my first arnis teacher from 1978 to 1983. You are right in what you write about the book. I have got a copy. But why do you think it is possible to get a copy in the Philippines? It was produced and printed in Germany, where also the photos were taken. Also Brocka did not have any ties with the IMAF of Professor Remy Presas. He was a student of Ernesto and Roberto Presas of the International Philippine Martial Arts Federation, IPMAF, or rather before that, the Modern Arnis Associaton of the Philippines, MAAFP. Brocka had his own organisations called International Philippine Martial Arts Association, IPMAA and International Independent Karate Do Federation, IIKDF. He died in 1984 in a car accident and I think the organisation died with him. The WUMA always was only a name with no people or organisation behind it. Just as Grandmaster Momoy Canete had his own San Miguel Eskrima is different. When someone says something regarding Doce Pares, I often wonder if it is of Grandmaster Cacoy or of Dionisio Canete. I too would like to know under whose wing of Doce Pares does Dong Cuesta belong to. I would think of Dionisio Canete if Dong Cuesta is considered the highest ranked Doce Pares in the U.S. being that Dionisio is in the Phil. and if he were of Grandmaster Cacoy, he wouldn't be the highest being that Grandmaster Cacoy is here. It would be great if each poster could attach to w/c lineage a Doce Pares post belongs to. Thanks. Ray Forwarded message: Ray, when I was in P.I. last month I was exposed to another style of escrima. Maybe you can add this style to your list. Here are the particulars: Name: Oido de Caburata Arnis Founder: Abraham Gubaton. Oido De Caburata Arnis is a complete system of FMA. This system utilizes long, short sticks, bladed weapons as well as hands and feet. Tapado is said to have originated from this particular system. Students of the system: Sabas Gubaton, Gerson Balitor. ------------------------------ From: "Michael Koblic" Date: Sun, 13 May 2001 16:38:48 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Quinn v. Blauer "Having seen the results of both I personally recommend Peyton Quinn's" Would you care to expand on the reasons why? I have no affiliation with either but would be interested in your analysis of the two approaches to teaching what appears to be (at least superficially) the same thing. Just as Grandmaster Momoy Canete had his > own San Miguel Eskrima is different. When someone says something regarding > Doce Pares, I often wonder if it is of Grandmaster Cacoy or of Dionisio > Canete. Here is my limited understanding... Momoy was Cacoy's original teacher, starting when Cacoy was 7 years old (c. 1926). I believe that Diony is the son of the late Euling. Momoy's style and the original Doce Pares style (the Doce Pares from Cebu :) was a linear fencing type style, more blade oriented. This was the style that Cacoy first learned. Given that Cacoy was the Canete brother that 'answered' the challenges to the Doce Pares Club, he had a chance to learn from trial and error what worked and what didn't work in a stick fight, given the challenges were all (mostly?) stick fights. Cacoy also trained in Judo, wrestling, boxing, Aikido and Karate. As a matter of fact, he once told me that if he hadn't had the good fortune of being born a Canete brother he would have probably focused on Judo. From his training in these various systems and his many fight experiences and made his eskrima less linear, more circular, more stick and less blade. Cacoy was highly successful in utilizing his style of eskrima against all comers, yet Momoy was never happy that Cacoy was changing things, frequently asking Cacoy in front of others, "Why you change my style?!" I believe that this is why Momoy went on to form San Miguel so that the 'old style' would not be lost. If you check the logo of the Cacoy's Doce Pares Federation you'll note that it calls out the styles of not just Eskrima, but also Eskrido and Pangamot. Cacoy has stated that Diony trained under him years ago in the 'old style'. Diony no doubt trained under others, too.
