Cacoy is clearly senior to Diony, his nephew whom he trained years ago. But Diony is Doce Pares International and Cacoy is Doce Pares Federation. Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com" GM Diony learned from his father GM Eulogio, and his uncles GM Momoy and GM Cacoy. To say that GM Cacoy trained him is not entirely accurate. His system is a blend of these three, with the strongest emphasis on GM Momoy's material. GM Momoy's system has many traditional aspects, with deep stances and lots of pattern drills. GM Cacoy's system strongly emphasizes sparring and eskrido. Over the years, GMs Cacoy and Diony have developed different views on teaching and each have a separate curriculum and separate groups of students. They used to teach together more than they do now. Master Dong Cuesta is the top student of GM Diony in the States, and has been in Doce Pares for about thirty years. He originally trained under GM Cacoy and his son Edgar, then spent many years with GM Momoy, then finally affiliated with GM Diony. ------------------------------ From: abanico-video-knuettel@t-online.de (Dieter =?iso-8859-1?Q?Kn=FCttel?=) Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 11:15:20 +0200 Subject: eskrima: Professor Remy Presas and Modern Arnis Hi everybody, I just receioved an email by Uwe Schwarz from Doce Pares Germany who makes some statements about Modern Arnis and Professor Remy Presas. My informations are of course different, but for I am open to learning new things, I would like to hear the comments from amybody who feels qualified to answer: Statement 1: Remy Presas learned Eskrima as a teenager from Arnolfo Mongcal who taught him for 6 months. Mongcal was the only Escrima teacher of Remy Presas. Mr. Presas combined his limited knowledge about Eskrima with japanese martial arts to create a sport oriented system he called Modern Arnis. Statement 2 In authentic FMA there are no training clothes, no costumes or pyjamas are worn. There are no titles like Datu (Please NO comment on the Datu. This topic has bees dicussed widely in this forum and the different positions are clear). There are no forms or katas in FMA. Statement 3: Modern Arnis adopted some movement elements from Eskrima, but it developed into pure movement system. Please note, that these statements do not reflect my opinion at all. I will not yet comment 1 and 3, to statement 2 I have to say, that some systems have adapted specific training clothes and some not. I have seen forms or sayaws in several systems, even from Momoy Canete, who was the Gramndmaster of a specific traditional style of Doce Pares. Any coomments to these statements would be appreciated. As it was reported on the radio, there was a dispute that occured in a parking garage. In relevant part, the defendant, approximately 6'3", 230lbs., punched an old man in the face. The old man fell and hit his head causing fatal injuries. The defendant was charged with third degree assault, a misdemeanor. The reason for this is that the courts have held that punching someone one time is not an intent to cause serious physical harm. Since there was no intent to cause serious harm, manslaughter was not deemed to be an appropriate charge. There is one major exception carved out for martial artists. It is the same exception used for ordinary people who use a weapon. Just thought this may be helpful. That way you had an edge in a fight and the other side did not know what techniques you were going to use. Why does the US military keep so much classified. Its so the other side will not know the secrets. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 14:19:13 PDT Subject: eskrima: . ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #231 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY (top line, left justified) of a "plain text" e-mail addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
