When the manager of the lot stepped in front of the car and confronted him, he got out of his car and punched the manager in the mouth. Unfortunately the manager hit his head on the pavement when he hit the ground, which caused his death. The court ruled that because the man didn't indend to kill the manager with the punch, it was not murder (death being caused by the blow to the head when he hit the pavement - but try explaining that to the man's wife). In addition to the 2-3 years he got for the manslaughter charge, he got an additional year or so for driving with fake licence plates, for a total of 4 years. I am, among other things, a long time student of the Professor. I've been training for nearly 30 yrs.. I either did/still do the tournament gig, full contact gig, the grappling gig. I've been around the block. Usually, this forum is very well run. Not very censored {here it comes}. But every once in a while there is a humorous aspect to the discussions. This is one of them. I understand that this is at least an attempt at a good question. Perhaps it was a method of research. Could have been posed better. There has been some response already to the posted question. What I find humorous is what appears to be, at times, a psuedo intellectual, I know more, thats bullshit type of response to what began as a decent discussion. One type of response comes from the likes of The Wicked Witch of Westbrook (funny, huh?). Others as well. There was also a picking apart of Datu Hartmans response. I am also a friend of The Great and Powerful Hartman. He knows alot. I also am friends with/train with some of the MOTTS. I'm not talking out of school. People, as individuals, have faults. They have history. Some more colorful than others (that includes Glinda Hartman, the Trouble Maker from the North). Professor Presas' history is well documented. I also own two of his books, a tape made with regards to some of his history while he was at my house, with my family, playing with my children. I have tremendous respect for his m.a. history as I have read it and heard it from him and others. Ask on my friends. Find out however you can, but the best source would be the man himself. He is being watched out for right now. If your nice, you could at least get a message to him through certain people. I'll not speak for everyone else but it's possible. My fingers hurt. No mas. I'll just keep enjoying the show and post periodically. till later, Dan McConnell Hilliard Budo Center Modern Arnis of Ohio a generally groovy guy ------------------------------ From: abanico-video-knuettel@t-online.de (Dieter =?iso-8859-1?Q?Kn=FCttel?=) Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 02:13:44 +0200 Subject: eskrima: Re: Modern Arnis and Professor Presas > From: "Jay de Leon" > Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 18:58:55 -0700 > Subject: eskrima: Modern Arnis and Professor Presas > > Regarding those 3 statements about Modern Arnis and Professor Presas purported to be from a Doce > Pares Germany practitioner, they are so full of sweeping generalities and obvious errors, I would > not even dignify them with a rebuttal. > > While I am no apologist for Modern Arnis or Professor Presas, I feel that Professor Presas and > Modern Arnis in particular and FMA in general deserve more respect than such seemingly > uninformed, flippant remarks (whoever the source may be). > > Jay de Leon Hello Jay, for you asked, Uwe Schwarz is 6th Dan under Cacoy Canete and the head of the German Eskrima Association (Doce Pares system in Germany). As far as I know he is married to a nice of GM Cacoy Canete, but I am not positive about that. But I have to admit, that I find it extremly disrespectful to an art, if someone, especially a head of a system in a country, comments another art in such a way. I have to say here also, that these statements are only from Uwe Schwarz and have nothing to do with GM Cacoy Canete, whom I met in 1983 in Cebu and for whom I have great respect. At times when out to dinner or late at night at the seminars Remy or Ernesto they have told me stories of their training and I'll relate them. This is from my conversations from with the brothers. GM Remy started training at an early age with his grandfather (6 yrs old sounds right) and he learned the going with the force method (Palis Palis?). GM Remy when he was a teenager moved and started studying Balintawak becoming the #2 fighter in the gym. GM Remy then travelled around and sought out other arnisadors and would challenge them, if he won then he adopted their techniques into his system. These weren't the so called death matches, but they were the full contact matches without gear of any kind. Anyhow from what I understand usually they where pretty short a couple of hits, disarm, or locking the person up. At some point he also worked for some people (Land owners) who had him as their instructor for their body guards (and at the same time a stick fighter for them in betting matches). Remy then started teaching for the schools and then the military. And at some point after being the ambassador of Arnis (his promotional tours) an incident occurred where Remy had to flee the Philippines and come to the US. When he came here, he stayed with actor Dean Stockwell (whom he met and trained on the movie set "The Stick Fighter"). And he travelled around to various karate and martial art schools spreading his art to survive. I think BB back in 82 did a good article on him and describes this period of his life. GM Ernesto is 10yrs GM Remy's junior. GM Ernesto was taught by his father. Over time both brothers did work out and train together but GM Remy would have been probably in his late teens early 20's. GM Ernesto did help train or run GM Remy's organization when GM Remy was promoting Arnis in the states on his goodwill tours. GM Ernesto continued to train the military after GM Remy had to leave the Philippines for good. GM Ernesto too had his share of matches but I don't think they were the kind or method that GM Remy experienced. GM Ernesto did also tour with GM Remy to Japan for the promotional tours. GM Ernesto's Kombaton system is similar in some aspects to GM Remy's system but for the most part they are dissimilar. While I'm sure the brother's shared ideas/concepts etc. etc. IMHO their systems are taught differently, with different material. I'm personally glad to have the opportunity to cross train with both of them. Both of the brother's are FAST. GM Ernesto is fast in his 50's and GM Remy is awesome (in his 60's) to watch when performing his Tapi Tapi drills. I honestly can't see a speed difference between the two, when they are getting after it. At a seminar with GM Bobby Toboada, at dinner GM Toboada spoke very highly of GM Remy's fighting ability stating that he was the real thing. Confirming the stories I had heard about GM Remy at the Balintawak school. Well this is my two cents worth on the Presas brothers. Both GM's have opened my eyes to a lot of different things in the FMA, and I'm indebted to both of them. I'm not a spokesman for either organization this is just my input. Does anyone know of a show called "Sekai Marumie Tarebi Tokusobu"? (The World's Greatest TV. Channel 4 in Tokyo). It is represented to me as a "news-information program which features a panel of celebrities who watch segments produced about (various things). The panel then discusses what it has just seen in front of a studio audience." Snipes. (the special was hosted 'by' Snipes) Jhoon Rhee was one, and just for fun, did full splits (at age 66!) and 100 pushups (well 1/2 pushups) in 60 seconds. Moses Powell, Jiujitsu master, looking OK, but aged a lot since I last saw him. Some slo-mo shots of his moves in earlier days were nice. Ron VanClief, who competed in the UFC, looking quite stiff, did a rather bad kata. Ernie Reyes Sr and Jr were there and their demo team did some great acrobatic kicking. A very, very bad 'rap' segment... In the audience, you name-it...lots of famous old timers. I switched channels after about 3/4 the way through... Hope this is of minor interest. ------------------------------ From: rudolf@kimbel.net Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 15:16:56 +0200 Subject: eskrima: Professor Remy Presas and Modern Arnis abanico-video-knuettel@t-online.de wrote: >Hi everybody, >I just receioved an email by Uwe Schwarz from Doce Pares Germany who >makes some statements about Modern Arnis and Professor Remy Presas. I know Mr. Schwarz personally and was quite surprised to see this post. These are his views, and he is a man who will stand behind his views, both with his knowledge and his sticks. But he's not on this list. Since Schwarz is not on this list, I met him yesterday and showed him a printout of Knuettels post. This mail was not sent to Knuettel. It's a mail that was part of a discussion between Mr. Schwarz and a third person. It was also in German. Since this third person is a member of Knuettels organization, he will have passed it on to Knuttel. Mr. Scwarz was not aware of Knuettel having posted his mail on the ED. So why is Knuettel doing this? Knuettel and Schwarz are competitors on the german FMA Market. Knuettel knows Schwarz and his views. Knuettel also knows Schwarz is not a member of this forum. If Knuettel and his friends want some fun bashing Mr. Schwarz, they won't get it. I'll forward the digest to Mr. Schwarz. I'll also forward his replies to the digest. We had a discussion in the beginning of april about other folks discussing Ray on some other Escrima Arnis Forum. It's really crappy behavior to start discussing other people and their views somewhere you don't expect them to be able to reply. It's also crappy behavior to publish other poeples mail without asking them.
