Remy started his basic Eskrima with his family as most FMA'ers back then did. His three primary teachers for the umpteen time ( see Rays extensive library of ED back issues ) were Temor Maranga first, who taught him a blended version of Balintawak, and who later introduced him to Anciong Bacon, founder of Balintawak. Where Remy became his #1 fighter, not #2 fighter, however part of the reason Remy left Anciong was because of Delphane Lopez, ( Balintawaks version of Bugsy Segal ) but that's another story, and I am sure all the mega grand masters know all about it. While with Anciong, Remy met Moncol, and can anyone out there tell uncle Rock why Moncol was so important to Remy....... That's right boys and girls, for the bazilinth time Moncol was left handed as was Remy!!!! Yep that's right I even have a 1950's peace of closely ringed rattan taped upside down for a left handed mother@$%^&n genius named Remy Amador Presas.Anyways, old uncle Remo has forgotten more about Eskrima then most so called masters have learned. If you really want to see something of interest, here's a little home work assignment for you. Get Remy's first book out take a look at some of his students posing for a class picture, look real close you'll see Gen. Ver in one and hey isn't that the GM who learned every thing from his Grand Father, yea him the one in the front row I think its him you know his name................... Any ways its to bad things are the way they are, if only people knew the man half as good as they think they know his art. The answer is I don't. I dislike this self-glorification thing enough as it is All I am asking for is what you would say if someone asked you about my stuff. Would you recommend it. What do you like about it, what don't you like about it. As far as I am concerned your considered professional opinions carry far more weight and value than anything else. ------------------------------ From: "Johnaleen" Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 12:51:54 -0400 Subject: eskrima: Re: Professor Remy I had a student ask me the other night after Teaching our FMA class, if i was keeping up with all the ups and downs here being written on Professor and what i thought about it... at the time i made a few comments about some of the postings on him, then the same night one of my teachers Phoned me up and asked me about all that was going on and being Written here about Professor.. and what my take on it all was. at the time of the phone call i made made an observation, First it seems like most talk as if the Professor is Dead, i.e. everyone is saying he said this and did that and all of these things, Why dont you just send him a letter or call the Modern Arnis association and ask him? Unless someone is like hiding something as far as i know Professor is not dead and can answer the questions, its possible he has no clue that there are so many questions to begin with, and its not like the ones here that are writing are unable to write, there's plenty being written and, the more that is written, the more speculation is put out there, and then more confusion is posted, Again like i said IF the man was DEAD i could see the possible reasons for the 'he said "she said 'he did"..... shrug" it just makes more sense to go to the Source then to bring Speculation and angry words based on miss understanding and miss interpretation. The Last time i saw Professor ( Note this was a month or 2 before he Fell ill ) he did not seem at all evasive to the few questions that i asked him personally at the time.. Go to the source if you can first.... As far as his history and linage, as someone already posted here on this subject. "its not like this mans history isn't well documented...." But you do have to READ it all first...........:) Ms J... ------------------------------ From: Kendal Coats Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 10:00:33 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: Snipes "Masters" "From: Badger Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 09:09:18 -0400 (EDT) Subject: eskrima: Late night 'Masters' event A very, very bad 'rap' segment... Rip off was not the right word and your explanation is correct. Once some one sees it or something similar, if it appears to have merit, someone will copy it, expound on it and make it his own. or one may have independent original thought and creation which is the same or similar to someone across the globe having an almost identical thought or creation. Hi Rudolf, nice of you that you took Uwe Schwaz side, but I have send him already my inquiery to the list as well as all the relevant replies myself. > This mail was not sent to Knuettel. It's a mail that was part of a discussion between Mr. Schwarz > and a third person. It was also in German. Since this third person is a member of Knuettels > organization, he will have passed it on to Knuttel. The third person was the webmaster of our official Modern Arnis homepage, who forwarded this mail to me. After his statements Schwarz closed with "he finds it sad, that we publish information without the proper background information". This was one way to provide HIM with these informations. > Mr. Scwarz was not aware of Knuettel having posted his mail on the ED. > > So why is Knuettel doing this? > > Knuettel and Schwarz are competitors on the german FMA Market. > Knuettel knows Schwarz and his views. Knuettel also knows Schwarz is not a member of this forum. Actually I did not know either. Many members are on the list and read only, whthout ever posting anything. And I still find things he wrote intolerant and full of errors. > If Knuettel and his friends want some fun bashing Mr. Schwarz, they won't get it. I'll forward the digest to > Mr. Schwarz. I'll also forward his replies to the digest. No problems, I did that already. His answer was, that he wanted to challenge me. Would not clear the facts we differ about either. > We had a discussion in the beginning of april about other folks discussing Ray on some other Escrima Arnis > Forum. My intention was and is to get neutral replieds to make him see, that his statements are far from the truth. I am sure he would not have belived me, if I would have told him the same things. I still think he does not belive it. Regarding the competition on the german FMA market you are wrong with your analysis about me. If you knew me you would know, that I donīt really care what others do. Let them do their things and I do mine. Live and let live. I donīt see Uwe Schwarz as competition either. We teach a system that is orientated on selfdefense and martial art, we wear uniforms (or pyjamas, as he likes to put it) btw. the ones tht Remy had designed some 30 years ago, we have belts and ranks. We try to teach respect to each other and to respect other arts and prefer to help each other in training to reach higher skill levels. We donīt teach and emphazise competition at all and are in this position in agreement with Professor Remy Presas. He is teaching a system that is competition or combat orientated. And, according to him, he never wore a "pyjama" in training. We donīt have the same people coming to our relevant seminars. And whatīs the use of bashing somebody in germany to get an advantage on the german market in a list, that is maily read out of Germany. If I would like to bas people to gat an advantage, I could have started years ago. Apart from that we live about 500 kilometers (300 miles) apart and donīt really have anything to do with each other. One more thing I would like you to consider: You might know, that I produce martial arts instructional videos. If I would only seek my advantage in Germany, why do you think I published (besides videos about Modern Arnis) 24 tapes about JKD and Kali, Doce Pares (yes, 4 videos about Doce Pares), Inayan Eskrima, Rapid Arnis and Kali/Sikaran? Just to bash people and get rid of competition? Think about it and juge for yourself. > It's really crappy behavior to start discussing other people and their views somewhere you don't expect them > to be able to reply. It's also crappy behavior to publish other poeples mail without asking them. > > Rudolf. Perhaps one could have handled this differently, but I was just very annoyed about the false statements he wrote about my Grandmaster and my style. If you have any more querstions or problems, e-mail me privately I think anything more would not be benificial for the other members of the list.
