First let me start by saying, Remy is only a man and like all men he has made his share of mistakes. From personal experience I have been for a lack of better words betrayed by a man who once told me to learn to be a good business man, so I did, and to learn to be a good Eskrimador, so I think I have, I learned from everyone I could since 1979 PT, Modern Arnis, Crossada DeMano, Lastra Brothers Method, Moncals Balintawak, Temor Marangas Balintawak, Traditional Balintawak, and seminars, in Kali, Doce Pares, and any other form a Eskrima I could. I am one of the very very few Fighters Remy has, I represented his art against, my PT buddies, with only a fencing mask, light hand knee and elbow padding, long before, Marc and his MUTTLY :-) crew done such a fine job bringing that type of sparring to the fore front, and even making it better. In fact I tried for years to get his many masters to come and play with me , but they were all to busy worrying about where they stand in his brief case style Organization. I developed a weight problem a few years back which I still battle with, I am kind of the Ed Parker of Eskrima if you will, and when this happened, strangely enough, Remy began to break off his relationship with me, he was always more concerned about how I looked rather than how well I could perform, so I was no longer his golden boy. But I figure hey if that's important to him, than so be it. I must be doing something right, most of my students are previously trained Eskrimadors that come to me to learn to fight. In fact I know of a few guys on this list that Remy has influenced not to train with me, his favorite saying is "Don't entertain him", or "you have what he has", well to that I simply say prove it to me lets Rock, and see just how good your slappy happy or mappy sappy or what ever his new catch phrase type of sparring really is. I became a good Eskrimador like his said and I am ten times the businessman he will ever be, and as a sign of how proud he was of me he turn his back on me oh well his lost not mine. If he was still with me he sure as hell wouldn't be worrying about medical bills, how sad!! Any ways now since ( and for the first time ever ) I have some what given a limited over view of why I am no longer Remys number one son. I ( unlike others who defend him because they think it will get them somewhere) have nothing to gain yet I will now defend him. As you say Moncal told you Remy is traitor and this that and the other, did you ever think that, maybe their was some animosity towards Remy's huge success. You see long before his new and improved Masters were here, I was training in Moncals Balintawak, and Temor Marangas, Balintawak, under Remy Presas, in 1982. He use to hide out for a vacation at my parents house in Dearborn Hgts, Mi. and we rarely ever did Modern Arnis. He would always tell me that this or that is what you do in a real fight and he would always credit Maranga, Moncal, or Anciong he would say they were twice the Eskrimador he was. Even GM Teddy Buot of Anciongs Traditional Balintawak agrees that Remy Learned much from Moncal, probably more from Maranga and Anciong, but Moncal was extremely helpful because he and Remy are both left handed. And since Gm Ted was the only other official instructor at the Balintawak school from 1960 to 1974, other than Anciong I believe he knows what he is talking about. I always here about people ( Who have no legitimate beef ) ragging on Remy on this digest. Well in my opinion, I think Remy has done more for FMA than anyone else and he did it by himself. Guru I. ( a fine man, and Remys closest competitor in the Fma popularity contest) ) had Bruce Lee. Leo Gaje who for the most part did his own thing is know where near Remys popularity, although Leo produces a different kind of Eskrimador at a differant level. Bobby Taboada was helped out quite a bit by Remy at first, and so on and so on. Remy may have his flaws and god knows he is no saint, but to say his Eskrima is limited is simply rants of an Ass Hole!!!! Remy has spent a life time creating a pretty damn good self defense system based upon the Filipino Martial arts, he doesn't claim to make anyone an Eskrimador ( or at least he never use to ) he takes people with limited skills with or against a weapon and makes them a little better than they were. He has the organizational skills of Fred Sanford, and sometime can't see people for what they are or treat them in the way that he should, and is often way to liberal in his rank selling, but he is one hell of an Eskrimador. Remy says I fight like Ted and Ted says I fight like Remy I take them both as compliments. And a good way to find out if Remy knows what he is doing is to play, train, or fight with me, I am always available, and no that's not a threat I simply reflect my instructors ability and they are no longer at a fighting age, ( which seems to be when people get brave towards someone) Any ways that's it in a nut shell!! Please read for more details. The time and location is at the bottom of this message. Please call the number on this flyer, or email me for information. Thank you. When It comes to a life or death situation, no other system is more combat proven that Kalis Ilustrisimo. The Ilustrisimo family is both dreaded and respected in the toughest barrios of the Philippines due to the legacy of Masters such as the late Antonio 'Tatang' Ilustrisimo, his father Isidro Ilustrisimo, and Uncle Melicio Ilustrisimo. This family is known for frequently engaging in live blade confrontations and coming out victorious with all limbs accounted for. Despite such an adventurous existence they were still able to pass on due to natural cause. The current heir to the system is the humble, yet formidable Antonio Diego, who dedicated over 26 years of intensive training under 'Tatang'. In the early days, in order to obtain advanced techniques, master Diego had to get 'Tatang' drunk, resulting in Master Diego being ordered to the kitchen to get a sharp and attack from 'Tatang' from various angles. No one other Master Diego can represent Kalis Ilustrisimo in it's purest. Master Diego chooses only to have a handful of full time students, and even fewer to represent him. HANS TAN, is one of the few fortunate enough to be certified by Master Diego. Hans Tan also trained under the late Punong Guro, Edgar Sulite in LAMECO from 1990 to 1997. This seminar is highly recommended by any martial arts practicioner especially if you have any bladed weapon interest. This seminar will be an eye opener for all Kali Practicioners, see for yourself why several established eskrima schools acknowledge lineage or influence from the Ilustrisimo system. Experience first hand the techniques of Media Fraile, Boca y Lobo, and Warwok. This is no frills Combat Ilustrisimo - expand your arsenal and your mind. Don't miss this rare opportunity. Bring sticks, a training blade, workout clothes and an empty cup or an open mind. Hans Tan is in the US only once a year so don't miss out.
