Krivka wrote: Just wanted to know if anyone attended the KAbarone Escrima seminar last weekend that was held in California. Guro Dan has shown a number of drills from the system and I wanted to know if any members attended and their impression of the system.] Everything went well. Thanks for asking. Saturday we had a very good crowd with a wide range of experiences and abilities. Grandmaster Estalilla began with a brief introduction and a historical overview of Kabaroan with an emphasis on weapon variety and ranges. He then began covering the basic lines of strikes and the basic types strikes, including two-hand techniques for, "the bases of Instruction". We then began on double stick (truncheon) patterns as an exercise. This includes all thrust, all slash and slash and thrust and some footwork to complement the pattern. We finished the day with an overview of Sinawali; single, doubles and triples. These patterns were compliment by meeting and passing. Sunday was a little smaller and I apologize to those that weren't aware that there was a seminar that day. Grandmaster began with a summary of Saturday's session then went into Disarms. He discussed the various types of disarms and how he breaks them down. He simplified the concept so that all attending could learn the fundamentals. The day was finalized by double bankaw (nipple high staff) drills, which I thought was a rare treat for the attendees. This is the fourth seminar that I have sponsored for GM Estalilla and I am always surprised at the richness and warmth that Apo can project to those that want to learn from him. Grandmaster ended the seminar stating that he hopes Kabaroan can make ones appreciation for FMA a little bit better and a compliment to what they already know. The goal is always to refine the system, humanize the art and civilize the artist.
