For example, > what combinations do you use, frequency of workout, duration of workout, etc. A bit different than what you asked, but what I like to do is use a round timer, e.g. one from Ringside. My round timer can be set to 2 min rounds or 3 min rounds with 30 secs or 1 min in between rounds, a loud beeper goes off to let you know when to start/stop. Fun to work different things each 'round' of practice. Good for privates, group classes, or your own personal training. Rocky, I also love Remy like a second Father. But sometimes, we have to seperate our path from our family to see the broader society not only your family. Remy is intellegent, man, and I have no problem with him, he might have done something I dont like but done is done, wounds in healed a long time ago. I also not trying to scared you, you could be my friends and I could be your friends vise versa. But friends fights also to settle differences, after that they go on. The way I look at it, if we cross our way, we could do both, fights and remain friend, after you beat me or after I beat the h$$l of you. You cannot do that challenge to the ED group. The group is Open Forum, exchanging ideas, issues, in Eskrima/Arnis in particular. We as a member should acts accordingly from the real purpose of the E-mail groups. This is not a place to throw a challenge, its easy for us to say what ever we want to say, because we are not in face to face who ever your addressing the challenge. Who knows may be you are really scared but in e-mail you are forwarding you are playing tough guy, or you are tough guy but you are playing down to earth. I dont want to answer this to long, I just one word to tell you, my friends. I am serious when I told you I accepted your challenge. Its is not to dis-respect to GM Remy its is a favor, so I want to test his skill that he passed on to you. If not just remember, one day we will meet and one thing I will be promise I will be remained your friends. Unless you want me to be your enemy, I just want you to call me your Sparring buddy. Test my skill and I will test yours. Also please do not used "bad" language you are showing your skills level is ??? okay? Rocky, Its very nice of you to answer back, after long week. Again I am not insulting your skill, I admire you throwing challenge like that, its happen I am hungry myself, but I want to fight someone like willing to get down on business for real. Okay talk to you later, I will be waiting for the time we can do our way. I'm by no means a pro, but I usually have a blade or two at hand I can stick in an eight inch target at ten feet. My buddy's question got me thinking; I came to realize I have some pretty strong opinions about throwing knives. I'm curious what the rest of the list thinks about these notions. In a nutshell, I think throwing a knife is generally a bad idea. It doesn't make sense to toss a blade at someone expecting you to do so, rather I see it as a preemptive and equalizing move likely to be frowned upon by sundry arms of the law. The probability of causing an instantly debilitating injury to an opponent is just about nil, while the possibility of pissing someone off and providing them with a tool to express their anger is pretty high. Bottom line is I don't think it is wise to stick something bearing your fingerprints into a person who may try to return the favor with the same tool and then have you arrested. With that said, I can imagine a couple scenarios where a throwing knife would come in handy. The first would involve a multiple opponent encounter. Depending how things unfolded I would either try to toss a blade at the target I felt I was most likely to hit, the target I felt was most likely to harm me, or the target that would most likely foul up the pattern of the attack, probably in that order, with the goal of beating feet while said opponents reassessed the situation. The second scenario would involve an opponent armed with a firearm. I'd hope that a thrown blade would either allow me to close and finish or beat feet away from the encounter. In both these scenarios the deck is already stacked against me so I'd go for the highest percentage throw I could muster: I'd target the center of mass, I'd take the arc of my throw through the orientation of my target so that an early or late release could still strike something, and I'd try to make sure that blade orientation was parallel, rather than perpendicular to, the ribs or other bones. I would not aim for the head, throat, or other Hollywood targets, trying instead for an arc and release starting at the sub clavial on the high end and the upper femoral on the low end, though if someone was trying to point a gun at me I might chuck something at his head to make him duck while I closed. Make no mistake, I'm fully aware that both the situations described above are best avoided. Failing that, a model 870 shotgun would bring quite a bit more comfort than a brace of throwing blades. With that said, I happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time last week while the police at the college I work at arrested a sexual assault suspect. As the gent in question tried to decide if he was going to run toward the 5' 8" 170 lbs. plainclothes cop or 6' 5" 260 lbs me sporting my best Chuck Manson glare, I couldn't help wishing I had a throwing blade handy just in case. Ya never know when you might need to give someone a good reason to duck. In fact I tried for years to get his many masters to come and play with me, but they were all to busy worrying about where they stand in his brief case style Organization." IMO, this is Rocky's first solicitation for confrontation! ( Okay, play, challenge may be more correct but I like the way solictation for confrontation sounds) Rocky writes furthur to say ".... But I figure hey if that's important to him, than so be it. I must be doing something right, most of my students are previously trained Eskrimadors that come to me to learn to fight. In fact I know of a few guys on this list that Remy has influenced not to train with me, his favorite saying is "Don't entertain him", or "you have what he has", well to that I simply say prove it to me lets Rock, and see just how good your slappy happy or mappy sappy or what ever his new catch phrase type of sparring really is" Slappy happy or mappy sappy, this is Rocky's second solicitation for confrontation And finally Rocky writes "..Remy says I fight like Ted and Ted says I fight like Remy I take them both as compliments. And a good way to find out if Remy knows what he is doing is to play, train, or fight with me, I am always available, and no that's not a threat I simply reflect my instructors ability and they are no longer at a fighting age, ( which seems to be when people get brave towards someone)" Rocky's third solicitation for confrontation! My instructor, Gat Puno Baet in ED issue # 242, 5/24/01, under the subject "Challenge Accepted" writes: Rocky, If this is for real, count me on, I been waiting for someone for real, I would love to play, train and fight you. Here in the US or in the Philippines, but not by words...... Let see how good Remy's skills on you, I play so many Modern Arnis before back home, now I would love to experience to lost from one, if you can take me, like you claimed. Condition your choice, No padded, No rules, or with rules, whatever your the one selling I am just buying. Train hard, Its been a long time since my last fight, I think I a little bit slower now than before. Okay so the Game will be Modern Arnis VS.Traditonal Arnis. Let see how we can do this? When? Where? Talk to you later. Rey, No dis-respect, I dont challenge anyone, Only the peole who challenge the list member. i still respect Rock, Remy, but opportunity like this is rare, so I will take advantage of it." And Rocky finally replies in ED issue # 253, 6/4/01 under the subject, "Oh My!! Gm Gat" - Where he got the ideal that this was some kind of challenge to him is pretty mind blowing. Maybe he wrestled to many gators or was hit to many times, = beating up all those so many people in the P.I I really don't know. My statement remains the same though, I believe I fight more like Remy than most of his Masters, of course I am just a lowly Guru so what would I know. Again my whole post was basically to agree that yes Remy has many flaws as do most of us. So in closing Gat the way I look at it when our paths cross you can either be my friend and maybe increase my knowledge in the FMA, you could start shit with me if that gives you a woody, or just leave me the F^&k alone. Rocky, anyone who can read can see that you changed your tone from your original challenge to your tardily reply to GP Baet. Also, GP wrote with respect when he accepted your challenge. Your reply was written with contemptible arrogance or in other words your usual asshole self. You see GP is not afraid to play with you with sticks and I am not afraid to play with you with words!!!!! In closing and in honor of the upcoming Father's Day let me used what your father told you, you wrote, " My father had 2 rules for me growing up " You start a fight I kick your ass" "You run from a fight I kick your ass". Well, Rocky you started it, you now are running so that means your ass been kicked twice!!!! Next time Rocky, simply admit your mistake and that will be the end of it!
