In truth, though, I can appreciate someone posting to the list an open *invite* to free spar with someone else as a *learning* experience. Sometimes you stagnate in your training because the group of people you train with are all versed in a similar style and are familiar with the same strategies and tactics. Inviting someone to come fight (with rules of safety - because we should all walk away friends) is a great way to test your own skills and mental flexibility against the unknown. I think that Gat Puno attempted to convey a "friendly fight" but sort of fell into the mocking tone at the end (lowering his standard to the "open challenge" idea instead of a true "friendly fight"). Ah, but isn't this all part of the beauty of communication in this single dimension format? True understanding is precarious... For developing power in fist, palm and elbow strikes I prefer a variety of different sized sand bags. I think the standard bags are too soft and can lead to a sprained wrist if you don't have good hand wraps while hitting them. A sandbag is hard enough to help prevent this while still keeping your bones intact. I like several sandbags going from head to torso size. I don't use wraps, but I do use bag gloves for punches (palm and elbow strikes don't need covering if you start slow). I only use the bags for developing power, one strike at a time. For combinations I prefer focus mitts. Human Aggression: Hey, is everyone on vacation? I have had six private emails giving me editorial help on my article on human aggression, (thank you all very much), but we have seen zero commentary on the subject here on the digest. I find it hard to believe that EVERYONE on this list agrees with EVERYTHING that I wrote. Where is Crafty, our resident eloquent cave dweller? And Animal, I would think that this subject is right up your alley. I thought the article would cause at least a little fireworks. Where is everybody? Hello everyone, I am having trouble with my knee and would like some info on possible reasons why it hurts, and the solutions. Beside the knee hurting (mostly on the side of my left knee) it also runs into the side of my hip (not on the backside where the sciatic is, but right in the side of the knee and hip joints. Sometimes both knees hurt, but usually my left one and the left hip gives me the most trouble. It hurts once in a while even when I'm at rest. sometimes I get momentary relief in both my left hip and knee if I stretch my leg out (in a bent fashion) in a sidewards manner. Possible pinched nerve? I know that it has been discussed to death on this digest, so I think it would be the best of the digest member's interests that you email your responses privately. Much thanks:) God I'm 22 and I think I already have arthritis! . . . . .
