Another option outside of Orthopedic MD’s and Chiropractors is Physiatry. Physiatrists are MD’s who specialize in diagnosis & non-surgical rehabilitative treatment of injuries (Including Sports Injuries) of musculoskeletal system. As MD’s, they are also more routinely covered by Medical Insurance than Chiropractors. More information on Physiatrists is available at http://www.aapmr.org/consumers/public/why.htm. My recent experience with a Physiatrist(only 1 visit so far) and Prescribed Physical Therapy(1 month/12 visits) for a Herniated Disc in the lower lumbar region has been much better than the 2 weeks I had with a Chiropractor. - Marcus Noel ------------------------------ From: "tim hartman" Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2001 05:40:35 Subject: eskrima: Datu speaks about challenge Greetings, I would like to make some comments about the ROCK and this challenge. I feel that I can talk about it because I know Rocky, I do Modern Arnis and Balintawak. 1. Guro Abon mentioned that there was another challenge made to GM Taboada by Rocky and afterward Rocky backed out, this is incorrect. It was because of an article that was written about Taboada, at the end of it there was a by line about a Ted Buot who teaches his own version of Balintawak. This is not the case, the only man who was allowed to teach at Anciong's club and eventually inherited the art was GM Ted Buot! Rocky was talking to the writer of the article telling him that it was in fact Taboada who taught his own version of the art and not the real deal. This lead into a letter to Rocky that GM Buot read and told him that it was a challenge! After some discussion between the two parties the topic was dropped. 2. Ken Jo made some sarcastic about Rocky and Balitawak. If you want to call him a coward than do it, let's not drag the teachers or arts into this mess. 3. I don't know how this started becuase I was teaching in europe and I did not get all my mail while I was there. If you made an open challenge Rocky, then it's your fault. If Guro Abon was reading too much into the post then maybe it's not Rocky's fault. No matter what is said not it is not going to change anyones opinoin, so can we now drop the whole thing and talk about something else or is this digest that boring? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: "Marc Denny" Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2001 08:05:37 -0700 Subject: eskrima: More stick cords A Howl etc: >From: EGJundis@aol.com >Date: Wed, 06 Jun 2001 13:18:20 EDT >Subject: eskrima: Cords on your Baston >My grandfather who was from Bato, Leyte (a 30" minute drive from where PG >Edgar Sulite grew up) was quite fond of attaching cords to his sticks. We had a good time and everyone worked hard. After the seminar we went out for food. Some of the people who attended were Modern Arnis people who attended some of the IMAF events recently. I asked if my name came up and I was told yes. I was informed that no one said anything bad about my ability. This makes sense seeing that the Tapi-Tapi Masters are my juniors in rank, years and ability. The one thing that I was told they said is that I'm a Renegade! That's too cool!!! Maybe it's a guy thing but I have always wanted a cool nickname like Blade, Stick, Snake! Yes it's true, I probably watched 5 Deadly Venoms one too many times. Well maybe more than one too many. I'm not sure what they mean? Renegade, somebody who abandons previously held beliefs or loyalties. If that is a renegade I can't see how it applies to me. I was in Germany with Remy when he was taken to the hospital. I was the only American there. At that time Remy offered to promote me to his number 1. I told him that there was no need seeing that I already was and that his health was more important to me than grabbing rank. After I left for the U.S., some of the soon to be Tapi-Tapi masters showed up. About a month later I saw the "News Release" on the Jeff Delaney website (I mean IMAF site that Jeff Mr.. Fifth degree self promoted Grandmaster who has not been able to produce 1 black belt during the 6-8 years he has been doing the art) announces the steering board. They consisted of a group people who were mostly 3rd & 4th degree black belts several months before when I TESTED (as opposed to a deathbed promotion) for my 6th! When the IMAF news release was posted, my attorney, who is also Grandmaster Presas attorney, read the post. He immediately wrote my response without being solicited by me to do so. I had held on to this for about a month as I watched the decay of the IMAF, in my opinion. I had many discussions with Dr. Shea, the chairman of the Board of the IMAF, about problems I had witnessed, and also things that had been brought to my attention. After seeing the score of problems being ignored, I decided that the administrative staff of this organization would not be capable of addressing the needs of its members. They were worried more about self promotion, than doing the right thing for the members. At that time, I officially put in my resignation to the IMAF and started the WMAA. If standing up for what I believe is right, and trying to ensure that Grandmaster Presas' art continues, then, yes, I am a renegade. But my loyalty is to Remy Presas, first and foremost, as many of his black belts are. He has never made anyone sign up to be a member in his organization. And recently he was asked by one of his students about joining up. He was told that there was no need, seeing he was a direct student of the Professor. I have left the group that I think may ultimately destroy the art in the near future, if changes are not made. I have not turned my back on the man or the art. Don't get me wrong, I feel that most of the tapi-tapi masters are talented practitioners in the field that they chose to specialize in our art. Several of which I consider friends. But due to the recent chain of events, it has made it very difficult to converse without stepping on each others toes. Hopefully, my assessment is wrong and they have what it takes for that group to survive. Like Professor Presas tumor, the IMAF has one at the moment. Unlike, the Professor who chose to have his removed, the IMAF is leaving theirs in place. Even if they do chose to remove it, will their actions be too late? I have put too much time into this art, to take that chance, which is why I formed the WMAA. I feel I must be doing something right, seeing that we now have schools in the US, Canada, Sweden, Denmark and Japan. I did not want to have to lower myself to this level, but I warned them that they should not start trouble with me. But this is not the first time I feel that mud has been slung at me. If you kick a lying dog enough times, sooner or later it is going to bite you and you have no one to blame but yourself. I don't feel that the entire group is the cause of this problem. But if you see a wrongdoing and do nothing about it, it makes you just as guilty. I must thank the person who has helped me with my new name. This saves me money in hiring a publicist. The title sounds better when given than taken. Yours Truly, Renegade Datu Timothy J.Hartman E-mail wmarnis@wmarnis.com Federation site www.wmarnis.com P.S.
