Is there some >history or >bad blood between you two??? > >Ray Terry >raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com Hello Ray, Actually, I think that Mr. Hartman, has a legitimate set of concerns and a valid complaint about the shabby treatment that he got from the new management in the IMAF. We do have a disagreement about his blatant usage of the 'datu' title, but I have been good and kept my promise - I never brought it up again, until he opened that door himself! Now as far as the "Wicked Warlock" that was conferred on me by a friend of his and I like it. On the other hand I Did Not convey the title "Renegade Datu" on to Mr. Hartman. He mentioned that in his post and as I understand the situation, that title was created by some Modern Arnis people associated with the new IMAF leadership - No names were mentioned. As I stated, I think that Mr. Hartman, did the correct and honorable thing in passing on the offer of a leadership role during the onset of GM Presas' hopitalization and subsequent medical difficulties. He is to be commended for that action. It is my position, that I can disagree with a person on some matters and agree on others. My disagreement in terms of the 'datu' title is that there are significant cultural differences between RP and the USA, wherein using the 'datu' title creates a false and misleading impression here and raises some hackles in RP, not to mention some other areas of SE Asia. I made that point as clearly as I could and since Mr. Hartman, insists on using the title, I will not try to dissaude again. Now it seems that at least some of his former mates are mis-using the title and renaming it, because of their disagreement with him leaving the IMAF. As I read his statements posted yesterday, he has in effect challenged them in terms of their years of study in Modern Arnis, knowledge of the art, rank and teaching skills level. He was senior to all of them and he wants them and us (ED readership) all to know how he feels. I can't say that I disagree with him on that score. He was 'stroked' in his absence. I have not seen or heard anything yet that rebutts his contentions. So it is not whether or not I like or dislike him. It is a matter of believeing that he is wrong on the title matter and probably right on the IMAF leadership matter, for the most part. Of course he does have a major blind spot in his logic, but he needs to work through that in his own time and manner. Good and reasonable question, Ray. Thanks for asking. 'CAUSE >HE'S >IN VICTORIA DYING IN A HOSPITAL BED!!!!!! Listen, Delaney and >Co. have >been the Professors FMA eyes and ears since October; Michael, Please don't get you knickers all knotted up!! The question was directed toward Mr. Hartman, because of what he posted and implied with regard to himself, Jeff Delaney, the other 'masters of tapi-tapi and Professor Presas. Read his posts very carefully, then re-read what I wrote as well as the questions that I am asking him. The fact that Delaney et.al. are the care-takers and/or designated leaders of the revised IMAF has beeen questioned by Mr. Hartman, in terms of their performance and rank credibility. Get on the stick and direct your huffy attitude at the source, not the questioner. It was Mr. Hartman, who stated that he wants to "preserve" the teaching of Modern Arnis and dedicated his new organization to Professor Presas. Hence my question to him is both appropriate and reasonable. So Why are you jumping on me, if you are such a staunch supporter of Mr. Delaney? As for Professor being in Victoria BC, dying in a hospital bed, that is news to me and must have just happened within the last week or so because I understand that he was at a seminar lat3e last month and he is planning on being at the summer camps in Michigan, Massachuettes and I believe Georgia in July and August 2001. If you want to defend and support Mr. Delaney, please do on Mr. Hartman's post under the title "Renegade Datu"! BTW, I do review the IMAF website weekly, ever since Professor became hospitalized. My understanding is that he had completed his radiation treatments over a month ago and was doing some limited traveling. But prehaps I am unable to understand the English language, so I might be mis-informed; oh, and by the way, you might want to read my reply to Ray's question before posting a reply to this message. To attack me so viciously, to call for a wholesale boycott of my school and of Laban Laro in general, OVER A CLERICAL ISSUE, is just amazing! All results will be published on my site as soon as I have them. We are still working on things. I know it is a bit slow, but we are doing the best we can. To turn a clerical issue into a major attack on my personal honor is just unconscionable. I don’t care who wins a tournament! We are in the process of making videos that include all categories, knife, stick, stick and shield. You will soon be able to see everything first hand. Rick, I am deeply deeply disappointed and hurt. I don’t know you. However, if you ever want to meet face to face and challenge my honor directly, you are cordially invited to the South Bay JKD school in Hermosa Beach on any Thursday, also i will be in San Jose (where you live) in September! . I am more than happy to put m y skills to the test when someone insults me personally and challenges my honor. But honestly, someone who does so over minor clerical matters likely does not deserve my time. You should be ashamed and I am embarrassed for you. Ron Balicki P.S. I will be in Milan Italy this week. I leave today. I look forward to reading your response when I return to L.A. From: "Rick Pineda" Date: Mon, 11 Jun 2001 22:47:52 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Ron Balicki's Laban Laro 2001 I'd like to get some feedback on the following: Mr. Balicki is no doubt a very skilled instructor/practitioner in JKD and FMA, but what has come to my attention recently has cast some doubt about his honor. Here is some background info. Laban Laro 2001 was originally held in Ventura, CA in March 2001. It appears that not very many of his students won in the stick fighting matches and so he chose not to include the names of the 2001 winners on his website. Instead, he posted only the winners of the knife fighting match and scheduled another Laban Laro 2001 for "later this year" according to a student I spoke to on the phone, in the hope that more of his students will place in the stick fighting matches. I am not an fma practictioner but know people at both the MARS academy and Lameco. I am trying to be objective here and I understand he can add/omit content own his own web page, but what I think Mr. Balicki is doing is not right. If you want proof, check out http://www.ronbalicki.com and click under "tournaments" in the drop down menu. If this is how his tournaments are going to be run, then I think a boycott of the Laban Laro tournament is in order. Also, if there are any recommendations for FMA in Northern California (San Jose area) I would greatly appreciate any info. ------------------------------ From: "Art Tipp" Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 14:06:00 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Ron Balicki's Laban Laro 2001 Dear Rick Pineda, You did an amazing job on your breakdown regarding Ron Balicki and Laban Laro. It seems you put the effort into planting seeds of doubt in our minds regarding Ron and his integrity, rather than into finding out easily retrievable facts. A quick phone call to him would have answered your questions. Ron’s actually quite accessible. It was an interesting choice you made going this route. I think, now, the spotlight's on you. In order to avoid making the same mistake, so let me ask you: What was your reason for not inquiring directly to Ron? Not enough time?...Didn’t have his number?...Wanted to cause a stir? And why would you want us to join you in trying to disrupt potentially valid tournaments over an error in a website? You went from a legitimate detection of a website error directly to character defamation and boycotting – and all conjecture-based. Why? I'm afraid that your negative contribution may say more about you than anything else? Anyway, you wanted feedback, there’s you’re feedback. I’m sure Ron will be more than happy to hear from you and to answer any sincere questions. He’s in Italy right now, but please feel free to contact him when he returns. As you know, Rick, words can damage. Try to be more careful with them. Keep in mind that Ron is a good person, not just a good martial artist. He's well respected and liked by those who know him and study under him, and he's earned that. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: George Wang Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 16:51:48 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: Pekiti Tersia school in NYC?
