I think the point is to keep your arm extended: bringing your elbow into your ribs makes it easier to balance the stick, so you have to rely less on your footwork to keep it from falling. Like most simple, yet fundamental, training methods, this drill takes practice to do well. James mentioned Bill Schettino. Anyone, regardless of size, height, weight, natural ability, martial arts experience, etc., will hit harder and faster, and respond more appropriately and effectively, after training with him. I saw in back of current "Inside Kung Fu" magazine an add for Serak video tapes from Victro De Thouars. The add says they feature Victor De Thouars and Guro Dan and that it was also filmed at the Inosanto Academy. Has anyone seen these videos or heard anything about them? There are 18 of them @ $45 each. 3 Juru videos, 3 Sambut videos, 3 Serak Buangs videos, 3 Serak Latihan Tiga videos, 3 Serak stick videos, and 3 serak blade videoes. Also is Guro Dan in all or only some of the videos I would like to know that also. But for anyone else in Michigan, I have found that just over the bridge in Canada, Windsor to be exact, their is a fairly large Filipino population, with losts of market type of stores. Well thanks for all the food advice. So I was wondering who is doing seminars, since Tom really didn't seem to interested. Maybe we work on something in Michigan, the Mecca of Martial arts :-). I am real interested, because of Momoys lineage, with Anciong, and would like to see if their are any similarities at all, I know one the out side they look totally different, but maybe one I learned some of it I would be able to recognize things an where certain things came from via Anciong Thanks Rocky Happy Fathers day those that are!!! ------------------------------ From: "WEE Shin Hoe" Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2001 08:51:05 +0800 Subject: eskrima: Re: Which martial art is best for short people? I agree with Ed. At 5'2" I have been searching for a martial art that is best for short people for the last twenty years and tried just about anything that I can lay my hand on. Based on my experience, a good instructor is more important than the type of art you are learning. What you'll need to learn is a kicking-based Martial Art since our arms are shorter and a graplling-based martial art to get you out of the trouble fast if you have to wrestle with a bigger and stronger person. In my case I stick to TKD/Hapkido/FMA combi. Focus your trainings on stamina, power, speed and accuracy and train against the biggest, meanest-looking opponent you can find. If you spend enough time playing with the big guys, you will get used to them and develope some effective ways of fighting against them. Sincerely, S. H.
