I got hit yesterday by what my wife Cindy (the tech head in our house) tells me is a nasty Trojan virus that I caught when I opened a file from a name I recognized that was a "pif" file with a name that was of interest to me. The virus apparently sent out various e-mails with attachments using my e-mail address, most of them to names not in my e-mail book, but apparently at least one to someone in my e-mail book. Cindy worked hard last night cleaning things up (reinstalling stuff etc) and it seems that she caught it in time, but she cautions that this is a nasty little sucker. Be very careful about what you open, and as Bill says empty your deleted message box. > ------------------------------ > From: "Michael Koblic" > Date: Sat, 21 Jul 2001 19:50:51 -0700 > Subject: eskrima: Girls hitting > > "Since you brought it up, WHY does Crafty hit like a girl? ;)" > > Which girl? Below is a just a small peice of an artical i had saved some time ago that i found stuffed on an old cd today that i would like to share. I re read this a few times today and thought to myself, well that's fairly devastating to be sure...........:) granted they lost but..... if all the variables would have been closer to or fairly matched the overall outcome i have no doubts would have been much different... The U.S. vs the Philippines Insurgents, 1899: December of 1899, Aguinaldo, still at large, had declared a guerrilla war against the Americans in a secret society. The Katipunan ("Worshipful Association of the Sons of the People"), was formed and practiced ritual terror against the U.S. troops and their Filipino friends for 18 months. As an example, in the first four months of 1900, 442 guerrilla skirmishes cost the Americans over 450 men killed or wounded. Finally, on March 22, 1901, after a rather suspenseful undercover infiltration of Aguinaldo's headquarters in the mountains near Palanan had succeeded, the insurgent chieftain was captured. One final flare-up of resistance occurred in September of 1901 when 48 men and officers of Company C, 9th U.S. Infantry, were chopped to pieces by bolo-wielding villagers in Balangiga.. I post here about this on the chance that some of you may have received e-mail with attachment alleged to be from me. What follows is what my Cindy sent someone who received such an e-mail. Crafty - ---------------------------------- "I can understand you being upset. I received this same virus from FIVE different people over the last few days. I didn't even know some of the people who sent it to me. "My understanding is that it infects your computer, picks file names from your MY DOCUMENTS folder, uses that file name, and somehow randomly picks e-mail addresses, and passes the virus on to others through e-mail. "Marc obtained the virus from someone he knew. They sent him a file about a martial arts subject, and he opened it. Luckily Norton caught it, but not before it sent out messages like the one you got. Nasty little devil, it attached itself to some pretty important Windows files. We had to delete 6 files, and reinstall Windows. "Unfortunately we are unable to identify WHO the virus was passed to since it didn't record anything in the SENT messages in his "Sent Folder"...and it doesn't appear to have used his Address Book for e-mail addresses. I looked all over Marc's Outlook express and couldn't find your name anywhere. I'm assuming at some point you two have corresponded...perhaps you have contacted Dog Brothers at some point? I'm not sure, but rest assured that you are being attacked RANDOMLY. "We'll probably hear about all about this nasty virus when the week starts. If you received it from anyone else, let them know (that's what I did) so they can clean it up from their system. It's the only way to stop it. "Best Regards, "Cindy Denny" Hacker Hater and Virus Victim :-) ------------------------------ From: Mike Casto Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2001 16:23:28 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: Re: Panyo << Kim: I am aware of the technique of tying a couple of pesos to the end of a 'Panyo'(hankerchief) as an improvised weapon, however, I have heard that advanced kali practicioners employ locking techniques (Trancada) with the Panyo and that sometimes they also use this piece of clothing as a defense against a knife wielding assailant. Are there schools/styles specializing in this? >> I know that this is used in FMA ... but I don't know of any specific styles of FMA that focus on it. I have a lot of similar material from Silat (primarily from the Cipecut in Mande Muda, but I've also seen some from Silat Serak). And Guro Dan I. has mentioned at seminars that he learned some of it from John Lacoste ... but I'm not sure what GM Lacoste's source for it was.
