They use guava sticks(probably other sticks too, but I've only heard about guava). "Lick" is Bajan slang for hitting. I doubt that there any formal training schools on the island, but I could be wrong. Seem to me when I first seen the Kuntaw with Carlito back on 1983, is a composed of Karate block and footwork and stances, similar to a Geronimos Sikaran, more a like Karate than soft style FMA or Chinese Martial Arts. I was just curious why is that, most Filipino Martial Artswith exception of Modern Arnis is promote fluidity, soft movement but firm and strong. Do you think Carlito Adapted a Karate movements for teaching purposes? I learned a three Dance Fflow of Kuntaw in Barrio Inarad, Daraga Albay, in Bicol Region, and is not like Carlito's art, and I know GM Carlito is alse heirs from Bicol region. Dont get me wrong I have a high respect to GM Carlito, I just want to see why his style of Kuntaw is a hard style like Karate? Kuntao-Kuntaw/Chuan'fa/Kwonbup/Kempo/Kenpo = Fist Law (or some say Fist Way) All are just different translations of the same Chinese ideogram. I wondered just how related they all are, identical name or not. ???
