If you don't have the capacity to do it, not doing it doesn't say much. ------------------------------ From: AnimalMac@aol.com Date: Mon, 13 Aug 2001 19:16:54 EDT Subject: eskrima: Re: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #360 In a message dated 8/13/01 3:35:18 PM Mountain Daylight Time, eskrima-digest-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: << "A pacifist is not really a pacifist if he is unable to make a choice between violence and non-violence. August 25th & 26 - Easthampton, MA. This seminar will cover Pekiti-Tirsia Empty Hand vs. Knife, plus an introduction to Knife to Knife. For more information call Mr. Ernie Laberg at: (413) 527-7027 Sept. 29th - Utica, NY. This seminar will cover Pekiti-Tirsia single knife techniques in both hammer grip and icepick grip with a focus on the use of the tactical folder. For more information contact: Mr. Chris Fry at: (315) 724-7479 or email: hmfcaf@gateway.net On a related note: I will be giving a lecture/mini class on defensive knife use at the New England Bladesmith's Guild seminar. Sept. 14th, 15th & 16th. This is a knife making seminar and one of my favorite events of the year. The top bladesmiths from around the country teach on a variety of subjects at this seminar. This year's segments will include: Blade forging. Fit & finish. Handle construction. Gas forges. Blade grinding. Steel choices & heat treatment. Knife testing. The business of knife making. And my own segment on defensive knife use. Friday night begins the seminar with dinner and a lecture. Saturday is the main class day with lectures, classes and demos running from 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM. The seminar ends on Sunday at 10:30 am, but there is a knife show where the custom makers and students bring out their "goodies" from 10:30 to 12:30. Lecturers will include the following custom knife makers: Tim Zowada, Brian Lyttle, Dan Maragni, Jim Siska, Kevin Cashen. (plus yours truly showing how to put all the sharp and pointy things seen at the seminar to good use). The location is a college "field campus" which is a campground-like facility in the beautiful Catskill mountains of New York. The facility is located in Olivebridge, NY about 1/2 hour west of Kingston, NY. The cost options for the seminar are: 3 DAYS: $185. This includes dinner Friday, three meals on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday as well as bunkhouse style lodging Friday and Saturday nights. 1 DAY: $165 for Saturday's classes and three meals. KNIFE SHOW: $15 for the Sunday knife show and lunch. (There is a $40 discount for full time college students on the three day and Saturday prices) For more info contact the Ashokan Field Campus at: Email: ashokan@newpaltz.edu Website: www.ashokanfieldcampus.org Tel: (845) 657-8333 Fax: (845) 657-8489 Regards, Tuhon Bill McGrath Visit the PTI web site at: http://www.pekiti-tirsia.com/index.html ------------------------------ From: "Marc Denny" Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 00:23:29 -0700 Subject: eskrima: DBMA Training Camp A Howl of Greeting to All:\ Tail wags to Salty Dog and Loki "Tricky Dog" Jorgenson for a great posts on the DBMA Training Camp. C-Lonely Dog is not as isolated as you may think-- he has been very focused in his DBMA training with me and I am proud of his progress both as a teacher and as a fighter. His fighting is very technical as well as bold. He is the highest ranked DBMA teacher in Europe and assisted me on the video that I shot for Budo while in Spain this past June. > Enough Already > I could go on - there were plenty of notable fights and lots of > good technique and spirit demonstrated. There were so many really good fights, and stellar energy from all the fighters. > Crafty - when's the next one? Next summer!!! In closing I would add that this was a great experience for me and I would like to thank all the teachers who came for their support. In order of their appearance: GM Ramiro Estalilla of Kabaroan Eskrima (ably assisted by list member Ron Reekers) Tuhon Chris Sayoc of Sayoc Kali (and Jimmy, Tom and Gordon) Roger Machado of Machado BJJ World Wrestling Champion Rico Chiaparelli Dr. Maung Gyi Ajarn Arlan "Salty Dog" Sanford (assisted by James Stacey) Tuhon Chris and Dr Gyi honored us with their presence the whole three days, and GM Estalilla was able to stick around for an additional day as well.
