If so, what percentage of training? Thanks, Rick PS I watched a tape by Demi Barbito demonstrating a low line kick against knife. Same kick almost, less committed, but nicely targeting the area right under the kneecap (infrapatellar tendon). Very nice; versatile line. So far I've limited "padding" to a little bit of pre-wrap ... about 3 layers (not wound tight so as to leave it uncompressed, h'mm, I'm having a deja vu on this post right now). Yesterday evening I got a catalog from Century which included some instep pads. Thinking of trying some so that I can whack that low end of the bag (the "like concrete" part :-) without hurting myself anymore! Not worried about the sticks except that if I get lazy they will bounce back at me. > >Mitakuye Oyasin. > >Be well, >Mik ------------------------------ From: Dane Matthew Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 22:43:38 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: Villabrille-Largusa Kali Demonstration - FYI hi all - just putting out an FYI for the upcoming Villabrille-Largusa Kali Demonstration THIS saturday (August 18th). it's going to be in sacramento this year. anyone is welcome to come. there is a $10 cover charge (raffle included) - only goes to help pay for the rental of the hall/etc. (we're a non-profit group). Most travel insurance companies (in Australia) t will not give you travel insurance to travel in countries with "travel warnings". One of my trips to Papua New Guinea to walk along the Kokoda Track (Americans called it a trail) had to be cancelled as too many people pulled out because they could not get travel insurance. If people think the PI is a violent place take a trip to Port Morsby or anywhere in Papua New Guinea. I think it rates as being one of the most dangerous places on Earth. ------------------------------ From: "Anderson" Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 22:17:28 +1000 Subject: eskrima: Re: Karate Roots Greetings from a Comjuka practitioner who trained in Angeles City R.P. and currently living on the island of Guam. It just so happens that I know Master Shiroma, I talked to him tonight after I saw the request on the eskrima digest ran by Ray Terry. I talked to Master Shiroma about his teachings in the Philippines and he said that the Philippine Commando Karate club in Manila was his group... He expressed a desire to get some information as we were talking.. He asked for your name and training dates so he can make contact with you.. He was also asking for an e-mail addy so he can contact you personally. So, I am offering my assistance to complete this request on this end... Shiroma Sensei has a school about 3 miles from my home and I will pass the info on to him... I go the Philippines about once or twice a year for training in Comjuka. So I can handle this request for you. His picture is on the cover so you can not miss it. There is also an article in that issue about the military's involvement in the Filipino Martial Arts.
