My mammy told me not to discuss religion, sex, and politics. But I think the poster above misses a few points. A. I agree that Filipino politicians (like U.S. Politicians) can have greed. B. The U.S. Forces decided to pull out of Angeles when the Filipino government and legislature became more "independent" thinking, forgetting the large amount of U.S. Dollars that were pumped into the Filipino economy with "GI" money. C. When the base rent went from an outrageous fee to a triple outrageous fee, and then Mount Pinatubo hit-- the decision by U.S. was easy= pull out of Clark AB. Who wants Ash in their beer ? I go to AC to get a piece of ash ? No way !! I have been to Angeles City and Clark AB a few times since 1991 and the close of the base. After the base was ransacked and everything was stolen (from toilets, to doorknobs, to steel)by independent Filipinos, a few attempts to have an "economic free zone" were attempted. Most local Filipinos miss the U.S. presence and the money that was pumped into the Filipino economy. But hey= independence exacts its price. This is why I love the current Peso to U.S. dollar rate. More San Miquel beer for me when I visit. But, why can't the independent Filipino Army solve the Muslim kidnapping problem ? This is not so good for tourism ? McD... P.S. The above is not a slam on the Filipino culture. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo!
