I have a file card just like the old school library. When someone borrows a book or tape (or my hedge clippers for that matter) they have to sign it out and date it. Then in a couple of weeks if it hasn't made it back home I remind them of it. Sure makes it easier to keep up with who borrowed what as you get older! Does anyone know a cheap souce for Jesse Glover's books about the early training in JKD? I had them a while ago, lent them out. Now I'm looking to replace them. The used book price is very steep. Thanks Andy Breton >> Hi all, I will second that request, since I think a source for Glover's books would be of interest to all contributors here. I, too, once had Mr. Glover's books, but they were "borrowed" and never returned many, many years ago. However, you have to remember that most if not all the students will be coming from the West- Europe, the US or Australia. $1500 USD is NOT big money for a week-long seminar in the US. While you can find any numbers of teachers in the Philippines who will teach you for far less, Tuhon Gaje used to live in the US and knows what the market will bear. It has nothing to do with where the training is, but who the students are, and who is willing to pay the fee- and there are plenty of people who are willing. Tuhon Gaje is a very good- no, make that an exceptional martial artist.> Response: I knew this was gonna happen. I try to provide some consumer awareness to people who may want to train in the Philippines, using an economic basis for the analysis and then comes a missed point. Oh well. Let me be clear again. I promise no more comments on this issue: a. You want to play in the PI, then pay "American or Foreigner" rates. Be my guest. The local Filipinos will gladly take your foreigner fees. They see green in your foreigner eyes. Hey, if you want to play the game blindly go with pockets of money and be pick pocketed. That is why I advised to wear a waist belt to hide your valuables. It is a different world, foreigner. b. Yes, I know the great Tuhon Gaje lived in the U.S. In fact it was in New York where I was born and raised. c. Yes I know he trained the originators of the Dog Brothers. d. You want to pay foreign fees to Filipinos in the PI, be my guest. They will take your money gladly. e. Or, you can find very good Filipino Masters who will charge you a reasonable rate. This includes private training fees, room, and all the pancit, chicken adobo, and San Miquel you want. f. You can eat in the PI and pay U.S. prices for Filipino food. Or, you can go where I go and pay what the locals pay. It is all up to you. I only think you should know that there is a happy medium. I think to fly into the PI from the U.S. (at another $1000 plus fee), then pay another $1500 for one week seminar= a lot of Pesos, baby. I asked Aussies and U.S. guys living in Angeles City, PI. They know the habitat. They all say the fees are high. One guy knows Tuhon Gaje personally and agreed he is great. But he also agreed the rate is too high, my man. This is based on Philippines economy. Not some U.S. big bucks seminar. But, I agree. Tuhon Gaje is great. A spectaclar artist. So pay him what you know he thinks the market will bear. No problem. As my man Telly Savales used to say "Who loves ya baby !" McD... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo!
