I love to stick fight, the harder the contact the better. I've also got a 3rd degree instructor ranking in hao chuan under erle montaigue and a first degree instructor rank in quan li k'an under bruce miller. anyway, I'd like to invite everyone to the MARF's convocation of warriors to be held october 13, 2001 in canon city, colorado. this is an open gathering to all fighters, closed to the public. bring whatever gear you consider appropriate for fighting. we will have stickfighting, emptyhand fighting, and other weapons fighting. all levels of contact, competition, and protection. If you can find someone to do it with and you both agree to the rules then it will be accepted. We will be looking to make this an annual gathering and hopefully in the future garner enough sponsorship to waive the entrance fee which this year will be 15 bucks at the front gate. This will be an outdoor gathering on private property and we will have medical personnel on hand in case anyone should have a mishap. the only requirement are that you agree not to sue anyone for any reason and that everyone leaves friends at the end of the day. for more information: Darrin F. Coe, Director MARF 1019 Clover Canon City, CO 81212 719-275-5907 loki@ris.net I can email anyone who desires it a flyer with all the information on it, but I'll not attach it to the digest so let me know in private email if you'd like the flyer. everyone is welcome, come and train and have the best day of fighting in your life. ------------------------------ From: "Nolan Hernandez" Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2001 01:47:51 -0200 Subject: eskrima: seeking Inosanto-LaCoste Blend Instructor To all, I'm relocating to Germany within the next week and am looking for a Kali/Escrima instructor there (preferably of Inosanto-LaCoste Blend) to build upon the basic escrima training I already have. Any recommendations of an instructor there would be greatly appreciated. Maraming Salamat. However, you miss the point that you cannot compare Leo Gaje, who is well-known around the world and who has an international organization supporting him, with any old GM XYZ that no one has ever heard about. You are absolutely correct in saying that you can travel to the Philippines, search for, find and train with any number of good people for much less money. My point is simply that the people who want to train with Leo Gaje will, no matter the cost. $1500 or $15000, in the Philippines or in Timbuktu, some people will still want to train and will pay. As for GT Gaje going to the US, I don't think it is possible. If my information is correct, the US government still has him on the persona non grata list. ------------------------------ From: sdrape@kbs-filipino-martial-systems.org Date: 27 Aug 2001 23:32:30 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Angeles > I asked Aussies and U.S. guys living in Angeles City, PI. They know the > habitat. They all say the fees are high. One guy knows Tuhon Gaje > personally and agreed he is great. But he also agreed the rate is too > high, my man. This is based on Philippines economy. Not some U.S. big > bucks seminar. While hanging out on Fields Avenue can be a lot of fun, don't think that you can learn much about the Philippines there. Anything that people tell you there will either be a lie, a stretched piece of the truth, or the truth some expat believes but which is coming from 20 years or so looking through the bottom of a San Miguel bottle. It's not the place to use as your reference if you want to start telling others what the Philippines is like! ------------------------------ From: "Steven Lefebvre" Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2001 09:56:20 Subject: eskrima: Re: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #378 Hello Ray and all the digest members, First to answer Ray's question:Grand Tuhon Gaje has told me many times that he will return to the USA sometime in the near future, but has not set a date.(for whatever reason) As for the training cost $1500.0 for a week including food is relatively cheap here in the states and GT Gaje will be training with you all the time, well worth the price, even though it seems excessive in the Philippines. Train Hard, it is the Way.
