Whoa guys- you misunderstood what I said! When I said you cannot compare Leo Gaje to the GM XYZ's it was not based on any judge of his, or their skill or teaching ability. What I meant, and what apparently was not clear, was that Leo Gaje HAS the name recognition, and so people in the West know about him, and would thus be more likely to want to train with him. I myself have spent years living in the Philippines training with those GM XYZ's, because I did go seek them out. I apologize if what I wrote was not clear! ------------------------------ From: Kes41355@aol.com Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 08:28:12 EDT Subject: eskrima: Re: RIP GM Presas To all students and family of GM Presas, My prayers and thoughts are with you...as a member of the Inayan Eskrima community, I understand and sympathize with your loss. On a personal note, it was because of Remy Presas that the FMA became my passion. He was a very dynamic, fun and interesting teacher, not to mention a truely gifted martial artist. He will be missed. ------------------------------ From: "Jason Inay" Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 07:07:08 Subject: eskrima: Re: Very sad Indeed, very sad news. What a loss to the FMA world, what a loss to the Modern Arnis Family, what a grievous loss to the Presas Family. Whenever we as a community of FMA practitioners pick up our weapon, wear our uniforms and perform our arts respectively we keep the lessons and wisdom of our teachers alive. NO matter the style you practice, you have in some way been touched by the Modern Arnis community collectively. GM Remy Presas did so much for us by helping keep the Filipino culture alive through the arts, and was a paragon of martial spirit. Not long before the passing of my father, he said to one of his colleagues in Ca. "Hey, Dale. All the Grandmasters are dying, now your generation will have to pick up the banner, and respect the traditions they have left behind." And then he was gone. So, as soon as you can, pick up your weapon and salute your training partner, and remember him everytime you train, for he has touched you and all the students you teach. He is alive so long as you "carry on". God's speed to you sir. Greetings, I am sad to say that at I have been informed by Maria Presas (daughter of GM Remy Presas), that at 7:40pm eastern time Grand Master Remy Amador Presas passed away due to the effects of a brain tumor. Our prayers go out to the family that has been left behind. I will try to get the details about the funeral and put them on tour site (www.wmarnis.com) for those who would like to attend and pay their respect. Respect and Condolences to all of the Modern Arnis and Presas family. Jason Inay "It is not in the Knowing..., It is in the Doing.." Remy Presas A great master is dead. I am full of sorrow when I heared of Professor Remy Presas´s passing. I was fortunate enough to visit him this last weekend, so I was there during his last days, leaving him only on monday, one day before his death. His situatione got worse and worse, so that it was obvious, that his end was near. Still I was very sorry to hear it happen. In the end he was cared for in a loving way by his wife Yvette Wong and Roland Dantes, a close friend and student from his days in the Philippines. Also Mike Chin and his students Jarod and Clay helped him in his last weeks/months. His wish was to find peace and rest in the Pilippines and Yvette and Roland Dantes will take care, that his wish will come true. The FMA world has lost a great master and he will live on in the hearts of those, who knew him. I will always remember first seeing him in 1974 performing at the Oriental World of Self Defense wearing a red uniform and moving with incredible speed with two sticks. I was hooked on FMA from then on. Thanks GM Presas for changinging my life.
