Remy On Behalf of the Laguna Arnis Federation International and the Garimot Arnis, we offer our prayer to the soul of Grandmaster Remy Amador Presas. I first met Ama Remy, on Sept of 1974 at Manila Colicium, when I perform on the Moro-moro Dance.. in front of Ferdinand Marcos I was 11 years old then. He came up to me after my demo together with his two top Student Willy Annang and Boy Tolentino.. He told me with his strong Visayan accent talking in Tagalog.. you are very good. He gave me a Pink book of Modern Arnis, with his signature that just published at that time. He told me he will make the best Eskrimador if I study the the book.. I put a lot of though on that words. I took that seriously, On 1978, I was awarded by Willy Annang and Rosemary Presas a Blackbelt Certificate, so I can teach under the guidance of Ministry of Education and Culture, at that time, Even I am teaching my family traditional Arnis, I have to call it Modern Arnis, the only FMA they acknowledge as sports oriented Arnis. I will never forget this chance they gave me to teach and promote the arts that I grew to love through the years. I believed on him. Salamat Ama Remy, Salamat.. To the family and students of Ama Remy Presas Condolence.. Gat Puno Abon "Garimot" Baet Laguna Arnis Federation International US Harimaw Buno Federation Hilot Research Center USA I would say, always, Ama (Father) Remy is always inspiring to talk to, and very convincing teacher, he word is work like a charm.. On 1978 I become the official Member of Modern Arnis Federation of the Philippines. My certificate was confiscated after a lawsuit against me, that banned me for fighting in tournaments and teach in the Philippines. << > Greetings, > I am sad to say that at I have been informed by Maria Presas (daughter > of GM Remy Presas), that at 7:40pm eastern time Grand Master Remy Amador > > Presas passed away due to the effects of a brain tumor. That was in May 00, hosted by M. Hufana in Bellevue, WA. Remy was in great spirits and kept us all rocking for 5 + hours, he never stopped. If I had any one thing to remember him by, it was his stick disarm where he did'nt just take the stick. But would tie the attackers arm up with it, turn, and walk away leaving the opponent's arms hopelessly tied up and crossed with his own stick! I still can't figure out how he did it! This is my image that I will always remember him by! Rest in Peace, Professor Presas. Chris ------------------------------ From: Bladewerkrr@aol.com Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 20:09:35 EDT Subject: eskrima: Re: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #385 Remy Presas was a great man and will be sorely missed. He was never too busy to talk to anyone or encourage them or work with them until they understood what he was teaching. One year I took a dear female friend to his summer camp in Dallas, she had never done any sort of ma and was very hesitant in going. By the end of that few days Professor had kindled a fire in her that burns to this day. He will be sorely missed by many many people. Rest In Peace, Professor A very sad Bear ------------------------------ From: "BILL MCGRATH" Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 21:39:02 -0400 Subject: eskrima: Passing To the family and students of Grandmaster Presas, Our prayers and condolences are with you. I never had the opportunity to train with him personally, but have trained with several of his affiliated instructors in the Philippines.. His art was part of the training I received in the FMA years ago. On Behalf of the Maharlika Kuntao group on Guam, I offer my sincere condolences to his family once again.
