The only position I hold in IPMAF/Kombatan is "tenuous". Kidding aside, my friend probably got that impression from GM Ernesto Presas, Sr, who when approached for IPMAF contact info, often directs them my way. In truth, there is no "chief representative" in the U.S. Living near me on the West Coast is IPMAF Master Instructor Ernesto Presas, Jr ("Jan-Jan") heir to his father's system and organization. In Florida is our low-profile but true Grandmaster Fred Lazo. In between those two, we do have chief representatives for certain regions: Master Mike Bowers (Pacific Northwest), Master Jon Rudy (Southwest), Master Shelly Millspaugh (Midwest), and last, but certainly not least, the dynamic Prof. Frank Ricardo (Atlantic Seaboard). It was my great pleasure finally meeting Al Sardinas in person (we've communicated before). Regarding his observations on the FMA comraderie at the HOF, he's right on target. It was great! Sincerely, Alex ------------------------------ From: "Reuben Argel" Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2001 01:33:42 Subject: eskrima: Instructors Aloha Folks, I usually just read and enjoy all the great things that you all post. Just want to say I agree with Jay de Leon's post. I also want to bring the following great people to everyone's attention. These instructors are the ones shaping and propogating the Filipino Martial Arts in Hawaii. Unfortunately, they do not get the press that most instructors do in the mainland. Most don't go on "tours" or seminars and probably have not grace the pages of Black Belt Mag or Inside Kung Fu hence the reason they are not "well know" outside of our beautiful island. They do not have fancy "schools" and usually just teach out of a park / rec. center. The average club dues is between $15 - $30/month. The money usually just go buy/upgrade equipment, rent etc. (They rarely profit from this!) These instructors cannot live on this kind money hence they have day jobs to support themselves and their family. Yet, after work, they still come out and teach because of the love to the art and to the culture. In my humble opinion, they too deserve as much credit as the others on Jay's list because they are the ones keeping the art alive in Hawaii. These are instructors that I've seen or interacted with and in no way meant to offend anybody if I did not mention their name. This list is in no specific order. Eddie Pedoy - GM - Pedoy's DeRobio Escrima Pat Amantiad - Head Instructor - Hawaii Filipino Martial Arts School Greg Lantayao - Prof - Lantayao Martial Arts Organization Mike Del Mar - Maestro - Del Mar School of Filipino Martial Arts Joey Del Mar - Maestra - Donald Mendoza - Head Instructor - Tobosa School of Kali Eskrima Through this forum, I hope martial artists around the world can get a glimpse of their contribution to the art of Kali, Arnis and Eskrima. BTW thank you for posting the Phil. History stuff...particularly the WWII in the Phil... we can use this for an ongoing WW2 project. Condolences: Condolences to the family and friends of the late, great GM Remy Presas...he will be missed. I am glad to read that Roland Dantes was with him in his last days...many of us remember him from his arnis movie from the '70s...I certainly hope the GM's wish to (finally) return to the Phil. will be granted...
