If you are a experienced in FMA , especially in nerve pressure techniques, you do not need the "Gunting Video tapes 1-3". Have a look on the Abanico-Video of Mike Inay, on which he shows Gunting Techniques, so you dont need to buy three, you only have to use the knife like a "sharp edged Kubotan or palm stick", I think. The one or two special details Bram shows on the tapes isn't worth the price. Even people with plenty of experience should benefit from viewing them, if at a minimum for proper, safe use of this tool. If you don't get the tapes, please remember: ONLY USE THE TRAINER FOR TRAINING! It seems obvious, but quite have cut themselves opening the live blade against thier body. the kinetic opening off your opponent is dynamic and against a large body part (legs, torso, face, etc.) the blade will begin to cut as it is opening. No problem on a bad guy, REAL BAD ON YOU. I'm one of the few to have not cut myself with it although I've been training with it since the original prototypes came out last year. If you want Bram' input or have any questions for him go to the MBC forum at Spyderco. com where he posts regularly. For actual content of the videos, it's pretty good. We have talked about refilming some portions, but they are okay as is. As with most of Bram's matierial it is conceptual, but if I remember correctly, there are alot of technique demos as well. I'm considering purchasing the Gunting Knife and Gunting Trainer, and I was wondering if the Training Videos would also be a worthwile investment. Thanks. The Gunting is a different knife design and in two seminars that I attended featuring Guro Bram Frank, I impressed by the added capabilities that the knife gives you. It helps if you have some background in ju-jitsu or chin-na. Buy the video set and buy the *trainer*. You will need to trainer for safety and it is in itself a very strong tool. westbrook12@hotmail.com: I wrote the following: >Subject: eskrima: Re: Top 10 FMAs Instructors >I would also like to extend my congratulations to both Dr. Barber and >PG >Bolden. A typo, it should have read "Senior Masters of Kenpo and eskrima". Sorry about that error. I was reviewing my email messages when I was asked "what is the largest building in New York" by a fellow service member. Knowing I was from NYC, I answered, "World Trade Center, and then Empire State Building." I was then told to come and watch the television monitor since the World Trade Center was just hit by a plane. I thought it was a freak accident. I then began watching. Within several minutes you could see another commercial plane hit the other tower. You then knew it was no random act. I worked right next to that building and NYC downtown area in the 1970's. I sipped on the coffee staring in disbelief. Just then, we heard a shudder and booming noise in the Pentagon. We did not connect the events. I lead my department out of the corridor 8 section to the North Parking lot. As I was leaving the clinic, several victims arrived. Bloody bodies, people in shock. We helped them get treated, then moved out. The plane hit the Navy side of the Wedge. The triage team was helping with several victims. People crying. Chaos. An unbelieveable day. A day to place in perspective what is important. Off to see if I can help anyone... ...a moment of silence for those innocent victims and families.
